I love my past. I love my present. I'm not ashamed of what I've had, and I'm not sad because I have it no longer.

Distractions

If you're feeling like you might want to binge, go and make yourself a fruit salad. Put it in the fridge or have it next to you, so that it's the first thing that you see when you go to get food. Whilst this doesn't solve the problem that leads to bingeing, it is a healthier way of filling yourself up and will lead to less guilt, which should hopefully mean that any urge to purge after a binge will lessen.

Listening to music is also a good distraction. Put on a track that reminds you of happy times - when you met your best friend, for example - and dance around your room. Exercise, no matter how mild, releases endorphins which will decrease the chances of a binge. If you can do it without being a danger to yourself, go for a walk. Even if it's just five minutes down the road and back. This can help to clear your head, rationalise your thoughts AND give you the all important endorphin boost.

Keep a diary or a journal. You don't even have to write things in it - you can draw pictures and paint, or cut out things from magazines or newspapers to express how you're feeling. Even better, make yourself a scrap-book of times that you enjoyed. Making it will keep you distracted, and it also gives you something to have a look at later on.

Talk to somebody. Even if you don't talk about how you're feeling, just call up one of your friends, go on MSN or use RYL's Chat or the Forums. Even better, go and see somebody if you can. Friends have a funny way of making us feel a lot better without actually saying anything.

There are the distractions on RYL's main site, and also the Fun and Distraction Board on the Forums, as well as RYL's very own Games Arcade.

Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, or a cuppa soup. It will take you a while to drink so should at least stave off the cravings for a bit, it could also keep the cravings off, they usually calm down after 15 minutes or so.

Find something creative that you can do, that will occupy you and keep you busy. Sometimes when we are bored we can want to eat more, so doing something that can really engage you can reduce your change of overeating or binging. Whatever can keep you entertained try and use - writing, painting, drawing, singing.

Ask yourself why you feel you need to eat. Try and pin point what is going on, if you are hungry then by all means, eat. However, more times than not, it will be tied to your emotions. If you can figure out why you need to binge then you can start dealing with whatever it is.

Finally, have a look at these;
