Christening gift? -question added-

Hey,
I was going to post in General Chat but decided to try here first, and I don't think I've ever made a thread in Vets so hello :)

It's my baby niece's Christening in a couple of weeks and I really want to get a nice gift, not just like a bear, spoon etc, you know? (No offence to bears/spoons!) But I've no idea what. I've searched so many sites and not really found anything.

So, I just wondered, especially for those who have children who have been christened, what do you think would be a great gift?

Thanks in advance xxx

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

I've never been Christened or anything, but when I was a baby my grandparents gave me a pretty gold locket that I still have. When I was a kid, I was allowed to wear it for only special occasions.

Thank you for all of your help and support. I will no longer be coming to RYL. Semi-explanation will be inside my profile.

Something that she can keep all her life. The locket is nice. My parents have a silver cup from when I was born.

Perhaps a photo frame, a good quality one, so they can frame a photo of her Christening?

My husband is my best friend.

In forgiving others, we are not exonerating them. They may not deserve exoneration. Rather, in forgiving others we are giving up our anger over the fact that what happened is not what "should" have happened or that our life is not the way it "should" have been.

photo frames are good. also personalised bible, or little trinkety items. most christian bookshops sell christening presents and card shops are good for photoframes.

you could also make a cheque out to the baby to be paid into the trust fund. mand x

A nice book/Bible - something to symbolize the christening sounds nice. Also I like the idea of putting money or something away in a Trust fund.

I got some lovely china and the Beatrix Potter boox set for my christening apparently. But I also think something like a locket is a nice idea.

what about a memories box? you can either make it or buy it and fill it with stuff, like a first tooth box and photo album etc. i did this for my nephew as i'd gotten my niece a bracelet but couldnt get him one!

i agree with ween though if you get jewellery make it something they can wear when they're older rather that a diddy. i still wear my christening bracelet!

i know a friend had the wine thing, went to open it for the birthday meal and it was corked, all but one bottle! gutted!

trust fund is easy to do, just give it to the parents with the child's name on and they can deposit it. we've made a separate savings account for chloe just so she can have access to buy special things with.

I like some of the other ideas but my sister and I are going in on a trinket box together.

Question - should we engrave it with the Christening date, or birth date?

I thought birth date as that's what I would prefer to have on any trinket of mine as opposed to Christening date? But I understand it could be Christening date as it's a Christening gift. Thanks xx

My brother an I both had christening braclets along with many other things for our christening. We both still have them in memory boxes as they are identical. So maybe some kind of jewellery she can keep.

Another gift I've had over special times in my christian life is a prayer book with the occasion and message in the front, again I have all of these and they help me to remember not only does God love me but so do those who bought it.

Its up to you what date you put on it, if its big enough have both?
