I wasn't really sure where to put this and I don't now if its been done before but Id really like some opinions.
I recently just had an argument with my boyfriend regarding our views on Jackass and bullying. I am actually quite upset by what he has said, but now I want to know what others think... to see whether I am just a freak.
To me Jackass and bullying are different. The examples I use are Bam Margera and his Dad. Its been quoted by his dad that he likes to play fight with Bam and that is a lot of what he does, as the dad does hit back. To me Bam does not bully his family.... But does he?
The Jackass Crew usually hit each other and some do find it funny. I find somethings funny on Jackass, and Id never associate the team as bullying each other. They knew what the crew were like, they knew what the show was about.
My boyfriends point was people hitting others is bullying no matter what and that its disgusting if people find it funny. Boxing is made for entertainment, although people don't laugh that's not bullying? Its the career they picked.
Now if my brother came home crying being beaten up or called names. That would be bullying I would sympathize and I would support him. According to my boyfriend if that was the case, that when I laugh at Jackass, that would be the same laughing at my brother for being beaten up.
To me its two totally different things. So my MAIN point of this chat.
Is Jackass bullying?
Id really like some views. Thanks for your time

Count the garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall. Count your life with smiles and not the tears that roll.
I have never really had anything to do with Jackass and such, but I do agree that the people involved with it, knew what they were getting involved with, etc etc.
Also, am not a huge fan of boxing. for no reason especially, just my lack of interest in sport of any kind, and I don't know/understand the rules etc, so tend to avoid it.
However, boxing isn't bullying, in my opinion. If you want a career in boxing, you have to be prepared to suffer a little bit for it!
I think bullying is a different thing entirely, premeditated and cruel, however in lots of cases, done for the entertainment of the bully, which maybe makes them similiar? I'm not really sure...
However, I think violence is a bit over-promoted in today's society, and we're led to believe that this is the fault of the media...
In short, I don't find bullying amusing, but nor do I really Jackass etc, funny... *shrug*
...I do laugh when people fall off chairs though.. XD
I don't think Jackass is bullying, they knew what they were getting into, with the example of Bam and his father if is just extreme fooling around, I think his father would be quick to put his foot down and say when enough was enough.
Thanks so much for the replies they are really appreciated and I am starting to feel like maybe my view... isnt as bad as it has been made out to be. (wont repeat the wording my boyfriend used about me)
I really dont believe it is bullying and the situation between my brother being bullied, and Bam and his father... its all 2 different things...
I hope to hear more views. Thanks again

I dont find Jackass bullying at all to be honest. I think if friends/family are close seem to 'make fun' of one another a lot. And if your close enough to a person you are both honest enough to tell each other if it effects you, and know each other well enough to be nasty and not mean it. If that makes sense.
So I dont find Jackass bullying at all, they seem to be laughing at each other and themself and having fun i guess in the process. I think proper bullying would be when one person enjoys watching and bullying another to the point it makes the victims life a misery.
Bullying is horrible I admit ive been on bothe sides of it and I hate it....

CKY, Jackass, Viva La Bam and anything else where you see Bam play fighting with Phil is not bullying. This happens to everyone on shows like this where april fools day style tricks are played. In Dirty Sanchez Pancho has always quoted that he's "bullied" and "picked on" but really it's just the rest of the crew messing him around for a giggle. =)
Me and my Dad have play fighted like that in the past, but it doesn't mean I was bullying my Dad. =P
Plus Jackass and Viva La Bam are scripted anyways, Phil is aware he is going to get a beating. =P
I get the impression that if someone were to stay 'stop, that's enough' on an, i'd like to say organized, but you know what I mean, show like Jackass, then whatever it was would be stopped. It's an entertainment program, at the end of the day.
I think it's completely different than bullying.
Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.
Jackass is definitely NOT bullying, its more a case of, quite simply, Boys Will Be Boys. Don't ask me why, but (and I was no exception when I was younger) boys (especially young boys but some guys don't grow out of it) are generally prone to fighting because (again, don't ask me why) in some cases (not all cases) we find it FUN. To this day, a friend and I occasionally bitchslap each other in the face, HARD, and say "tag, you're it."
Jackass is horseplay, they enjoy it. Bullying victims don't.
I don't like Jackass usually but I would never say it was bullying. Those guys are consenting adults. They could walk away from the situation. In fact, they are being well paid to be in those situations. Your boyfriend sounds self-righteous but maybe he just has issues and was bullied a lot. I don't know. But if he flat-out insulted you for being smart enough to know what actual bullying is, then what a jackass.
I really, really dislike Jackass. I don't find it funny, at all.
But, I don't think that it's bullying. I like how somebody phrased it up above: There's no malicious intent.
"Be nice. Think happy thoughts. Champion silver linings. Love all things (not just cute things like babies and kittens) & when you do love - love like they do in power ballads (you know like on a cliff with the wind in your hair and your eyes shut, knowing you'll never know love like this). Watch out for dog poo. Smile at people - even grumpy ones. Remember anything is possible & whatever you do always try to look on the bright side."
