New/More mods?

So i've noticed lately that a few of the mods have left/moved on. I was just wonderng, are there going to be more mods added? If there are, are you guys going to select from the general membership or are different staff members just going to be moved to mod status?

I'm not trying to start a debate, i'm just wondering if mods will be introduced to replace those that have moved on from RYL? I'm not saying we need more then the number we had before those left, just asking if the mod ranks are going to be made up to that number again.

There are currently 8 active all-forum mods, with just over 7,000 active members. A ratio a bit lower than 1:800 seems like it would be good. Plus it would take a lot of stress of the mods, who almost all have additional staff roles.

I would count the forum specific mods too as they do actually do work all over RYL,they just specialise and looking at the staff listing i think 12 out of 13 are active at the moment.

There are some mods who have their names in blue..

Yea but Jo shows as a member, her user name is blue!

I still see her in the staff & her editing in the forums...

Jo is still a mod, she just turned her red off to have a bit of a break :)

As all the mods know, I think we need a hell of a lot more (more around the 15-17 mark) so that they can do their jobs properly.

I've brought this point up ages ago but it was decided that none were needed.
I brought it up in Nil's leaving thread, and in the discussion afterwards, but mods said they didn't need anyone else.

I'd be willing to count the forum specific mods as .5, because while they do have input on what happens all over RYL, I've never actually seen them mod outside of their specific forums unless it was an urgent situation.

the forum specific mods still send out PMs etc about avatars/sigs....everything. I forget that our specific mods are specific sometimes!

Which is why I said .5

No matter how much work they do behind the scenes the fact is they still only have one board out of 20 something to mod.

This is all totally beside the point though. The point is that we do definitely need more mods. Either a couple of more general mods, or several more forum specific mods. Or both. Just because the current mods can handle the work load, at what expense is it to them? Just because people can do something doesn't mean they should if it's adding an unnecessary level of stress. With the rate we've been loosing mods, and having mods take extended breaks lately it's obvious they are under too much stress. Even if not all of it is RYL related, RYL isn't helping.

^ I agree I don't see how it can hurt to have more mods if it lightens the load for them.

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Then again, it'll take time for the new mods to find their way around and for the current mods to show them the ropes. :)

Although I think the benefits are better overall.

Moved on. Take care.

Also its a matter of finding suitable people to be mods.

That is exactaly why I suggested about 4 -5 months ago the mods start looking, but it was decided that it wasn't necessary.

Yeah, it's a pain to add new mods. However, eventually its going to have to be done. It will be much better to add more mods now, rather than keep putting it off and end up with 5 active mods trying to do everything AND find new mods.
