Tell a mod or tell them myself?

Over the last couple of days I've noticed several people who have stuff in their sigs or whatever that are now against the rules (dates and stuff). I was just wondering, do I have to message a mod to let them know about it, or would I be able to message them myself and remind them that the rules have changed?

I don't want to step on anyone's toes by doing their job but I thought it would be easier on the mods if I just sent a quick friendly message to the users concerned. But I don't want those users to then think that I'm getting ideas above my station! Lol!

If I should just report it to the mods then fair enough. :)

I would suggest reporting it to the mods as some people may take offence to a member PMing them about their sig.

You can post report one of their posts and say it's their signature you're reporting, or PM a mod with the username of the person, OR email the mod team as a whole. :)

Moved on. Take care.

...but the easiest thing for us, is to PR one of their posts :)

I know the mods have said you should report it to them, but I think it's up to you what to do. If it's someone you don't know, then I definitely agree that you should report it to the mods as contacting the person yourself risks creating conflict. But if it's someone you know really well, and you don't think they'd be offended, then they might rather have you remind them than have it edited by the mods. Of course, even if you're friends with them, they could still be offended by it, so then it's just down to how you think the particular person would react to it. Personally, I'd be pissed off if someone I didn't know (who wasn't a mod or on staff in a relatively high up position) PMed me to say I was breaking the rules, but I also wouldn't want to have my signature edited by the mods and would rather get a (tactful) PM from a friend/someone I respect about it than have it edited.

I didn't really know the person whose sig it was so I think I'm just gonna report it to the mods when/if I find it again (lol!).

Thanks for all your replies.

If you're friendly with the person, and/or feel comfortable and "safe" PMing them about it yourself then go for it! There's nothing to stop you, as long as you're aware of the possible reactions of some people, and that the PMs worded in a friendly manner rather than a "do this" one.

You can always report it to the mods and we're happy to sort it, but it is ultimately your decision, and depends on what you feel best doing. x

Thanks guys. Think I'm just gonna stick to reporting to mods. Seems like the safest option. :)
