It's not overly different from CBT. There is a lot more focus on why you do the things you do and identifying what triggers them so you don't relapse back into it. That is probably an appauling explanation, but I found a link: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/...apy_000510.htm
My own experience of it was that it was very tough, but it did answer a lot of questions I had about my behaviours. Good luck! x

I'm currently 2/3 of the way through a 16 week treatment, and am finding it somewhat helpful but difficult at times. Like blackrose said, it works on finding out 'traps' and behaviours that you get caught in, where they came from and eventually how to deal with the problems. At the start your therapist will ask a lot of questions about your past and make a 'map' of your thought patterns and 'traps' that you get caught in etc. Sorry that this makes very little sense, I would advise you to give it a try though I think that it can be very beneficial. Here is a link to the main CAT webpage.
please take care, and give it a try feel free to PM me with any specific questions, good luck xx

i'm doing CAT, but it's gone a bit weird for me. it was supposed to be 24 sessions but it's turned into open-ended, and it doesn't really seem to have the same structure as it says so on websites and stuff. some stuff is the same, like in my first session i was given a "psychotherapy file" to fill out, and recently my psychologist gave me a letter she'd written outlining my difficulties. a lot of the time we just talk and try to understand things. also sometimes i have bits of "homework" like bringing in things that represent stuff for me, and in sessions she gets me to write things down on pieces of paper, like diagrammy type things, if i want to.

it's not bad :) i hope it works for you. xxx

Don't know anything about it myself, check out MIND's website, normally has some good information about most things. Cx
