Ok now i know i'm going to get a lot of opposing opinions about this because...I just will.
But i hate christmas, we don't have much money, so presents in our family are very limited. If at all.
Don't give me any crap about christmas being about spending time with family etc etc because we all know, that it isn't, it's about presents.
Basically my question is, is it wrong for me to be REALLY bitter about christmas to the point where i actually hate this time of year?
This will probably get moved or deleted or something..meh.
I kind of think of it as a few weeks of giving and getting stuff in return. That's pretty nice. The whole Christmas deal in general bugs me though, as I'm not religious (so that aspect means nothing to me) and then the ridiculous commercials, dumb songs, cheesy TV specials and the fact that if you tell people you hate Christmas you get treated like a leper... I'm ranting now.
For me, all that really happens is a load of arguments and people ending up in debt. Eurgh.
i'd only come here seeking peace i'd only come here seeking me it seems i came to leave
It's not wrong to hate a festival.
Maybe what you hate more is the cultural and commercial trappings around it?
I don't like the holiday season, and part of me hates it with avengance, because it reminds me how alone I am.
But then, to my surprise - and pleasure - I get caught up in the warmth and sparkle and that melts things some for me.
I think I like having some warmth, giving and sparkle in the depths of winter! I'm not particularly religious, but the spiritual - in the widest sense - aspect appeals to me.
I don't do the whole present thing that much, mainly because of not having many people to buy for, and also being short of cash. But exchanging cards with work colleagues is nice, I think.
i agree. I like it coz yes I spend time with my family etc but I do hate it (and hate it even more this year) just coz of the arguments that do happen. In my family it always always ends up being a stressful time. Every year though I get really excited about it till only a few days before xmas because of the stress it holds at times. We never had much money but mum always liked to spend just abit too much money so yeah there's one argument there already.. and the fact that dads family are just bitches and we just had to spend xmas with them else we'd be cut off etc.. well there you go. It just never is a full on happy time with the family, seeing cousins you see once a year etc. This year will be even more sadder coz now mum won't be there. I am still looking forward to it though coz I'm out of home and I am excited to see my family. I totally understand about the money though. All I'm getting from dad is a $50 gift voucher for a food shop. I don't mind really. It means one weeks worth of food.. but on another forum their talking about spending hundreds of dollars on their kids and its like :( coz yeah.. our family doesn't get to do that. And it annoys me when those people think they have nothing >_<
Ok no idea where I'm going with this. Totally understand Bee. I'm looking forward to it but I'm totally dreading it at the same time. *cuddles* Hope you can still enjoy the day either way. And you'll find alot of people hate it as well. For some it brings back bad memories, I have a friend who's ex husband left her on xmas. So it's totally natural for her to hate it as well. And, if you want, no doubt I'll be online at some stage on that day so if I'm on and you wanna talk, your more then welcome =)
I don't think it's wrong to hate christmas. This year I'm really in the festive mood, but underneath I'm still unhappy. I don't have friends to party with or give presents to. This christmas is better than the last two though, when I was in hospital.
New year is the time I really hate though. I can't deal with it, the start of another year.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
I was pretty anti-Christmas when I thought that I wouldn't be able to go home for Christmas due to work, but now that I can, I'm all for it.
I just like the happier atmosphere that's around at this time of year - special Christmas markets, etc.
& I like having a day to just chill out with my family & have a nice meal & exchange presents, even if they're not much.
I do understand the bitterness about Christmas though, as I sometimes get like that.
i don´t like xmas at all.
i don´t know why but i just hate it.
" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.
I wish i had my world complete again.
'Can we protend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, i could really use a wish right now' BoB
Basically my question is, is it wrong for me to be REALLY bitter about christmas to the point where i actually hate this time of year?
i do not like christmas much either to be honest i
will be glad when it is over. i do not think it is
bitter of you, it can be a hard time of year
for some people.

and never lose hope;
remember, even when this world throws its worst and then turns its back,
there is still always hope.”
I don't like Christmas. I've lost all my Xmas spirit long ago, now it's just a thing to get over and done with. December is preperation for exams time now :|
I just don't see the magic in it anymore.
No, it's not. I really hate Christmas and new year. I'm sorry but why the frak should we buy eachother presents? I must be one of the only people I know who really doesn't like getting presents. I don't like giving them at Christmas either, but that's because I feel compelled to, these gifts aren't personal, they're not from the heart, they're there because apparently I have to otherwise I'm a Scrooge. I'd much rather see no one and do nothing at Christmas, give and receive nothing.
It's all just ridiculously pointless.
I don't think it's wrong at all - your personal feelings and opinions on something like this can't be 'wrong'.
I personally used to celebrate Christmas because I was a Christian, and the event lasted a few weeks as opposed to one day. Now I still enjoy the whole feel of Christmas, but that's my opinion. Y'know?
Like, if you don't celebrate it for a reason, there's no reason for you to like it. I don't make much sense tbh.
I used to really like it when I was younger, but not any more. I do like that it gives me a holiday from uni and work though.
I agree about feeling compelled to give presents. I'd much rather give a thoughtful present when I wanted to give it rather than having buy something just because it's Christmas. Christmas is all about the material things nowadays, and that is what I really dislike about it.
I'm a bit of a scrooge too.
I find christmas very fake, commercialised and as I'm not religious its not significant to me in that way.
There are some aspects I like, I like seeing my family members that I rarely see, though that novelty often wheres off quickly as generally my whole family see me as the wierd, absent minded, stupid pig and like to remind me as often as possible.
I like celebrating with friends, I love buying the perfect presies, and seeing their smiles, however that brings about even more negativity as, per usual, I end up fairly skint and painicing.
I guess seeing so many people jolly is good as well, but when you can't quite muster up the same spirit in yourself in can make you pretty bitter. Really bitter, and I don't get on with my dad or older borther, my whole family uses me as entertainment through mocking, I hate feeling disappointment, which then makes me feel guilty and selfish, and I hate eating food I don't much like and blah blah blah blah.
And yeah, kind of rambled, generally this christmas I'm looking foward to drinking many bottles of cheap wine and champagne when no ones looking, and escaping to my grans for an hour, then to see danz for some much needed cigerettes.
I majorly went off Christmas for a long long time. I thought it was more boring than anything and familiy get togethers are so forced and blah blah blah.
Now I've got a [a very excited] child and my own place I have gotten WAY back into the Christmas spirit :)
I appreciate how hard it can be at Christmas, especially when you have no one to share it with or hard times at home and so on. I don't think it's wrong to hate Christmas at all...its personal opinion.
Im with control freak about New Years though. I can't bear the whole 'start of a new chapter' bull when I'm still struggling with stuff that's been carried with me year after year. Plus I never have anyone at new years...and now that I have a kid I dont get to go out......but New Years it hyped up so majorly that you just HAVE to go out lest you be labelled a loser :| Grrrrr death to New Years Eve!!!
Ive hated christmas for ages, i hate the songs, i hate how people are so fake happy to see each other when any other time of year they would be to busy arguing, i hate stupid tv comercials, "classic" films that should have been scrapped years ago, i get called scrooge alot by family and friends because of my views on it but i really dont care ill lock myself in my room and hide.
To me its a good time because i get 2 weeks off work and thats it i have other reasons (non religious im not a religious person at all) but they are personnal im not sure theyd make sense if i posted them.
