Firefox

hi..umm..i came on the internet the other day and firefox wanted to update and stuff, so i let it, but the thing is, now, for some reason when i type in a web addy in the addy bar, umm...i dunno how to explain it >< umm...say im typing in recoveryourlife, all pages that i have book marked that have that in the title appear in a drop down menu..i dont really want that to happen because im scared someone will see...i dont have cookies on my laptop, i have Ccleaner and that gets rid of them all everytime i turn on my laptop. i dont want to erase all of my faves because some of the things there i need because i need to keep an eye on it, most things arent from ryl, but some are first aid stuff and things like that, and i need them so they are like a click away, but i dont want them to pop up in a drop down menu everytime i type something in in the addy bar does anyone know how to stop firefox doing that? i have looked at all the tabs and stuff but i cant find anything to make it stop...

the last time i updated, this is what firefox updated to:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3

(i just c+p that from the about box...i guess its FF 5.0?)

thanks in advance for the help

Becca x

mine does the same now, it remembers what ive got in my favourites and automatically drops them down, but not random sites that ive visited that arent in my favourites.. if that makes sense.

Mmmm.
I'm a bit useless when it comes to this,
however, having just had a nose on my own firefox,
if you go to Tools, then Options, then Privacy,
there's options there that you can tick/untick in regards to your history showing up (which will be previous sites you have visited).
You could play around with that?

xx

^ That's basically it.
I choose for it to always ask me before clearing my private data. That way I can tell it not to delete my bookmarks, but it does delete the sites I've been on recently from the drop down bit.

It's all part of the latest upgrade for Firefox. It all comes from your Web History and Tempory Internet Files folder and some other stuff I don't know about. It can't really be turned off as a feature. But there's nothing wrong with it. it was just something Firefox included to try and speed up your surfing. It memorises the most familiar addresses you use so you can get to them quickly but ony having to tyhoe out the first couple of letters of the address.

But there is good news, you can delete them. type in the first few letters until the bar drops down with your options, use the arrow keys to scroll down to the one you want and just press the delete key. That's the actual button that say's delete, not the other delete key: that does nothing.
Once gone, they only come back once retyped. If you don't want them to show up again, you'll have to erase them each time.
