Is there nothing we can do about people reading our posts?
Someone keeps reading my rants, and I know that there's people I know on this site, so I am majorly paranoid...I've already changed my name a few times and changed accounts a couple of times.

I'm pretty sure Harley is aware of this, and if not I'll point him towards this thread. Either way he will need to look into the programing to see if it can be done, so he probably won't have an answer anytime soon.

I put someone on my ignore list last night in the hope i would stop them reading my posts >.< I was wondering whether the ignore feature worked like this..so i'm glad someone asked.
Mmm. I hope Harley is able to sort something out. I feel incredibly crap now knowing the people whom i don't want reading my stuff..are reading/viewing my profile/posts.
Argh.
If you really don't want them reading your rants then maybe you could set your journal to private (or just the entries you don't want them reading) and rant in there.
It's the only place that I know we have an element of control over who can and can't see what we write.
I have private entries in my journal and I know for a fact that people who are not on my buddy list can not see those entries.

I don't think there is a way that you can shut yourself off entierly from a person on RYL (so they can't read your posts/see your online etc)
Basically if you really don't want anyone to see what your writting then sadly either don't post it or post it elsewhere like on your journal.
I know its uncomftable because well, my sister is now on here and can see what I write (love you to bits baby) and like i've had 'friends' come online and follow me about too. its just a case of not posting/posting elsewhere.
thats one of the scary things about internet..if someone wants to find something especially on a forum..they can.

There is the option to change your username if you feel that it may help the situation.
I also suggest NOT answering the polls/surveys in F&D. If someone were to try and find you on RYL answering those surveys only makes it easier. You're telling your name, birthday, location, pets names etc.

Yeah, even if you change your username, if someone knows you to enough extent in RL or on other websites / forums they'll know the style in which you type so they'll guess it's you.
That's the kind of response I got from a mod' on NSHN when i said about changing my username on their anyhow.
Can i point out something about the journals please. If someone has subscribed to your journal and is notified by e-mail they get an e-mail with the content of your journal entry whether it is private or not i know this from experience. I ignored the person and they still got e-mail notifications even with private entries.

bloody hell this threads progressed. well im glad its not only me having this problem. i might contact a mod about my person because i know their username and know they dont actually post or use the sight- just to check up on me and a friend which we think is unfair and invasive.
any word from mods as to changing the privacy features to prevent this? its discouraging me from using ryl
This is something that Harley and James are going to have to look into. They ARE aware of the situation, but they aren't really able to do anything about it right now as Harley doesn't have good net access.
Once he's back, I'm sure he will look into it and see what he can do.
