I am currently:
Aripripizol..abit worried

I was prescribed with this by my phyc yesterday and i was looking it up on the internet but im kinda worried it says its an anti-phycotic!!

Quote:
Studies of aripiprazole compared with a traditional
antipsychotic, like haloperidol, and with a new
antipsychotics, like risperidone and olanzapine, all
show apriprazole to have equivalent antipsychotic
Quote:
action in the acutely psychotic patient

From: http://www.bentham.org/cn/sample/cn3-1/002AC.pdf

i mean my phyc told me it was but he was giving it to me as a mood stableizer and NOT anti-phyc..but why not just a mood stablier on its own? why an anti-phycotic aswell??
what is he trying to tell me?
does he think i am phycotic?

I do not know why i have been given this! He kept saying "it must be hard with voices in your head" and i told him "its not a voice its a thought"..and he just said in a really patronising way "i am not disputing polly.." I am sure I do not hear voices i am more sure then i am sure i am that the grass is green!...I was talking about the thought, i was just confussed because i have this thought that is in the thrid person "you this..you that.." aswell as 1st person "i this..i that" i just wanted to be reasured by someone perfessional that this is what most people have!

I duno i was just wondering if anyone else was on it? and what for? and how they have reacted to it? i am still not sure what these pills are ment to do?

will they stop my panick attacks? I do not understand..im just confuzzled

thanks
xxx

I've been on aripiprazol and it stopped me from sleeping, made me feel dizzy, gave me palpitations and messed up my sight. The worst ones were not sleeping at all and sight disturbances.

But don't let that put you off - it may work well for you.

And yes, aripiprazol can be a mood stabiliser and/or an antipsychotic. Taking it doesn't mean you are psychotic - doctors use it off-label sometimes for its mood stabilising effects.

I took it as an antipsychotic, but I did notice that my mood swings calmed down when I took it.

I hope it works for you.

xx

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I take it for "psychotic symptoms" but tend to feel a hell of a lot calmer on it, not as paranoid, less likely to have panic attacks that might be why your dr prescribed it for you? Hope it goes ok.

I will write more later, but anti psychotics are used on low dosages as anti anxiety agents and aripripazole is also used off label as a mood stabiliser. But you could always ring him up and check.

Abilify (aripiprazole) has really helped me. Will write more later.

10 days ago I was prescribed quetiapine, which is an anti-pyschotic. My Pysch made a point of saying that I wasn't pyschotic, that she was using it as a mood stabiliser. I was pretty worried at first, but it is helping me, so I try not to worry.

But I do wonder, do they ever tell pyschotic patients that they are pyschotic?

Its all or nothing
And nothings all I ever get
Every time I turn it on
I burn it up and burn it out

My Aripiprazole/Abilify has just been lowered from 30mg to 20mg.They told me it was to get rid of Fred - my 'voice'.It is kind of working its made him quieter and less frequent.I did get side effects though. It gave me muscle twitches in my face, made me tired and gave me the shakes.

I'm on Abilify (only 10mg). I take it because it helps with my mood, especially my depression (I'm bipolar). It does work, and along with Geodon (similar medication) has helped my anxiety loads. I suffer from social anxiety and now I'm out going to parties and all the like! Side effect wise, I had pretty bad akathisia (inability to sit still). It's not the mental anxiety, it's a physical anxiety.
