Marijuana and Drug Tests

Great, so tonight at dinner my mom decides to break the news to me that she is getting health insurance on me.

I'm fine with that, but its just that there going to need to take some of my blood, and I guess there going to be testing for drugs. I'm not a druggie or anything, but a couple weeks ago I smoked some pot with a friend of mine. Now I'm paranoid that its going to show up on this test. I'm sure that my parents would not disown my or anything of the sort, as about a year and a half ago my mom asked me if I have every smoked pot and I told her that I had; it's just that I don't want the plan to get canceled and disappoint my parents.

Does anyone have any expirience with drug tests and know how long it takes for THC (the active ingredient in pot) to clear out of the bloodstream? I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but it seemed to be the most appropriate to me.

It's something like 30 days, but this might be better in the Substance Abuse forum.

I am going to move this to the substance abuse forum because I do also think you'll get better replies there.

But, first, I'm going to give my reply. :)

When you're being tested for drugs, the drugs in your system have to be at a certain level. Marijuana can be out of your system, depending on the amount you smoked, within days. But, generally, it takes up to 30 days of not smoking to test clean. That is supposed to be normal for avid smokers.

How long ago was it you had smoked with your friend?

According to Erowid, for infrequent users, THC will stay in the system for 2-3 days, frequent users up to 2 weeks. Urine tests are 1-6 days for infrequent users, 7-30 for daily users (FYI). I've never found a reason to doubt erowid so I reckon you'll be fine.

In your blood? Less than a week. Unless they're requesting skin or hair samples you've nothing to worry about.

Oh, and as KH suggested, Erowid is a fantastic resource for information such as this. Unfortunately we're not allowed to link to it here due to its 'neutral' instead of 'negative' attitude towards drug use (fair play on a website that largely should be discouraging delf-destructive behaviour), and because of this, I would never tell anyone to go searching for it. However, if you were to want to check out the site, Google would help. But you shouldn't.

on average 5-30days depending on how much you used and the amount of THC in it basically how strong it was.

It's much more likely they're testing for undiagnosed illnesses, by the way. Surprised no one (including myself) has mentioned that yet.

Yeah, they're not looking for drugs. They want to make sure you're not about to drop dead right after they insure you.
