I was just wondering, if theres anyone else on this site that takes zopiclone? or if anyone that knows about it?
i thought that it was meant to only be used for a short amount of time but ive been on mine since december now, i kno my doctor would of changed it if she was worried about it.. but anyway... is it still safe to be on them after that long?
Ive read that you get withdrawal symptons if your on them for longer than 2 weeks... is this true?
i just want peoples experiences being on this medicication etc etc

you are refering to the sedative?
had a poke round, seems that if you are on it for chronic insomnia for anything over 4 weeks, consultation with a specialtist is heavily recommended
check the company's data sheet on it, which should be availible from your chemist.
never been on it myself, but if you are worried talk to your doctor and pharmacist.
Yes.
I've taken it fairly long term, but not every night - either every other night or once or twice a week. In fact I took one last night, the first one this week.
yeah ive been on it loads of times. It should only really be prescribed for a max of 4 weeks because u can become dependant on it. In the past i was addicted to it and coming off it cold turkey was pretty harsh, with insomnia, restlessness etc. It did eventually go away but it wasnt nice. Some drs prescribe it longer than they should so if u are worried (which it sounds like u are) then talk to ure prescriber about it.

I used to take zopiclone but after a while it stopped working so now i have zolpidem, but only when i really need it because i don't want that to stop working aswell!
They are only supposed to be prescribed short term, they are not as addictive as the benzodiazpines (eg diazepam, temazepam)
I would discuss it with your doctor before stopping any medication, especially if you have been taking it since december.

I used to take Zopiclone but as of today my meds have been switched and i am now in Diazepam. This is purely because the Zopiclone no longer has an effect on my sleep. Previous to this it was brilliant and really helped.
I hope your axperience with it is ok.

im on it and have been on it for other month and thought the same as you. its even on repeat perscription. so im supposed to take them alt nights but im starting to not sleep on the nights i dont take it!
it doesnt really answer your question, but your not alone x
ive been on zopiclone a few times. All of them were fairly long term. But im on the lowest dose (3.75mg). to be honest ive never seen the addictivness of this. The times ive stopped it ive had one or two dodgy nights but thats been it.
even tho ive been on it a lot of times, each time i get really weird side effects like 'losing time' where i dnt remember wat i did or said, i become really out of character, and one time wen i was in ip they thought id taken something coz i could talk/walk/see properly, but then other times it has no effect at all. strange!
its 'supposed' to be short term...but ive been on it 5 years now...not steady anymore, the last few years is 'take as needed'; heleaves it up to me. I ALWAYS have some in my pocket 'just in case' and usually that is enough..KNOWING i CAN take one..usually i dont have to..its my security blanket. I may go two weeks with nothing then a week with 3 times a ay, then just 2 a week..its sporadic. He trusts me to know when i need it, i appreciate that. You dont get much control in these things, so this lil bit is very helpful and, yes, empowering. un fortunately i built a tolerance to it and had to switch to another, but same rules apply, 'as needed' we find it works well...
it is classed as 'addictive' but, for me at least, it NEVER has been, nor have any other benzos been a prob for me; apparently this is rare.
SO, no SE's, no other ill effects. But everyone s different. Speak withher if you are concerned hun

thank you. reading that youve been on it for years now helps. I guess it depends on the person themselves. Ive got just over a weeks worth left so once ive finished that i'll go back to my doctor.
im on 7.5mg and was told to take one a night when needed but ive been taking one, sometimes one and a half and sometimes even 2 but i dont know if this is safe, so im trying to stay clear of it.
thanks for all the replies anyway, once i know what my doctor says and thinks about it- and i think also after ive seen a CPN- i might ask to change to a different sleeping tablet, at least for the time being. zopiclone works on and off for me. and i get that horrible taste in my mouth. a chemical kind of taste. its strange.
anyway, thank you everyone ill keep you updated

Aye, I was on it for roughly... two years? About 4/7 nights a week and for about two-three months every night. Now it's been changed to timazepam because having been on it so much it stopped working.
I just got back from the doctors. Im still on zopiclone. but the doctor i saw did say that i shouldnt be taking them every night and when i see the cpn im seeing next week that he should be looking at changing them and my ad's. so yeah. its looking like i shouldnt be on them for as long as i am....but they still gave me more lol
