Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it sometimes a good idea to let themselves cry out? Particularly when they've been put to bed and just don't want to sleep? I'm not sure if he's old enough yet, but I know that it's helpful to get them out of bad habits to let them cry until they fall asleep when they're refusing to settle.
I may be off the mark, and I know how hard it is to listen to a baby cry, so sorry if I'm wrong!
Do you have any sort of support from social services at all? Not in the sense that you need monitoring, but in the sense that they can help? It sounds like you're struggling, and that's ok, you're doing well, but no one is expected to cope with a baby all by themselves.
