Seraquil..? (antipsychotic)

Anybody have any experience with this particular antipsychotic? I had a meds appointment this morning and the gal is WAY to concerned about my cutting...she told me that this drug is used for folks that are bipolar(not me, but she acknowledged that) and she swears folks with depression (at small doses). She says it is supposed to help with 'obsessive' thoughts (I do dwell on things but can a drug really stop that?)...
I don't know really what I'm asking...just if y'all know anything about it I guess...

Thanks!

Heya, I am on quetiapine (Seroquel), yeah, it was given to me to help reduce my 'impulsivity' haha. I have OCD btw, so I guess they wanted me on it for that, I think it basically slows down your thoughts and keeps you a bit calmer, thats what I thought anyway.. and yeah, it does help me, but I take it at night to help me sleep so if you can choose when to take it, night is better cos it can make you sleepy.

xx Sorry thats not really very helpful, but I think its main use is to calm people down.

I'm on seroquel too, i'm on 750mg which is nearly the max, i take it for obsessive/impulsive thoughts. It has quite literally been a life saver for me, i wouldn't leave the house without it! Give it a go, i hope it works!

Lots of love and hugs

Im on Seroquel for BPD, impulsivity, anxiety, obsessiveness etc
The weight gain hasnt been too bad, nowhere near as bad as some of the anti-psychotics I've tried.

hi there
I'm on a big old dose of the stuff and I havent gained weight. In fact at the moment I'm having to eat all i can to stay the weight I am.

I know that most antipyschs can cause weight gain, but I believe the truth of it is, as long as you eat healthy, dont over eat, get some exercise then you should be fine.

hi Ally...

i was on seroquel for quite a while. i was on it for psychosis.
i did gain weight but im pretty sure that it was because it increased my appetite so much. after i took it, i would raid the kitchen like mad. but i dont think the med itself causes weight gain...just extreme appetite increase.
good luck with whatever decision you make.
much much love.

I was on it and it caused me to gain about 25 lbs. I don't know if it was the meds or the increased appetite. I'm on the first anti-psychotic I've ever been on that doesn't cause weight gain and it works great. It's Geodon. Good luck with making your decision.

for me, it was a horror show (but everyone is different!!!).
I remeber very little of my hubby calling for ambulance, docs giving me o'something' to counteract it and staying in overnight for OBS.
It was given to me FOR psychosis...and that's just what it gave me lol...thought not really funny...i sdid a great deal of damage...
So i'd say try it, but be very concious of any differing moods, amount of SI, etc.
I hope it works for you...
let us jknow
