How to broach the subject of my drinking?

I am getting concerned about my drinking. Nearly every week I am buying alcohol. Not only that I can't go 48 hours without drinking. Even if I go out without drinking and come back late at night then I start drinking.

I am worried that I am going to start drinking every single day and end up addicted (so much so I have been given libirum when IP ). It usually starts off with a increase in drinking and then drinking every single day.

My parents are due to go on holiday soon. Last year when they went away I drank every single day.

All of this has got me worried. I guess I should tell my cpn about this but the question is how?

Could you read out or print what you have typed here and hand it to her? She will likely have had this conversation with other patients, so even if you can tell her it's a worry, then she can lead from there, ask the right questions and hopefully help you with a plan of action.

Thanks. It's actually a relapse signature increased drinking so I am kinda worried that I am relapsing especially as I had what they call "ideas of reference " lately. As I sit here I am thinking about drinking.

Be honest with your cpn , it won't be anything they haven't heard before . I do agree with Sketchy that writing what you want to say could well help , then if the words don't come at the time you can hand over the piece of paper.

No but I did go once to an local alcohol counsellor. It didn't work out due to transport issues (they kept on putting times which meant that I couldn't go due to the fact I only had one bus a day) but that's not an issue anymore. I guess I could ask my cpn for an referral to them if I felt things got bad.

I spoke to my cpn who asked if I wanted a referral to the alcohol counsellor. I said that I don't know. She said that the best thing is to continue things as they are because I don't need the stress of trying to cut down on my alcohol along with my parents going away.

She asked if I was drinking as soon as I get up, which I am not. She said that she wasn't too worried. She said that it's a good thing that I am concerned about my drinking. She also said that it's a good idea to drink alcopops or wine or beer rather than the Jack Daniels. She also said that things may get better once my parents come back from hols.
