Prozac

Hey everyone!

Was wondering if anyone had any past or current experience with the medication Prozac. I am already on Cymbalta and Abilify and was recently on Remeron (Mirtazipine), but this has resulted in some unfortunate side effects so my doctor decided today to switch the Remeron to Prozac. Has anyone had any positive or negative effects of Prozac that I should be aware of, like drowsiness, increased/decreased appetite, etc?

Thanks!

That's fluoxetine yeah?

I was on it a long time ago, and I don't think I had any side effects.

I wouldn't have thought it would have a bad impact on appetite since it's used to decrease binging in bulimia.

Ive been on this nurmerous times. It doesnt have many, if any side effects and is usually tolerated by people quite well. sometimes when I was on it (been on it 3 times now) it decreased my appetite but other times it had no effect what so ever...

I worked well for my depression but did cause some insomnia.

Awesome, thanks so much everyone. I am a little worried that I may experience the decrease in appetite because I am recently in recovery from an eating disorder... But the overall lack of effects that you all are reporting is very encouraging, especially since I will be starting it right before my university's finals week!

The only thing I noticed from it was being like a zombie for the first few weeks. But, that could have been my illness.

I am on Prozac(fluoxetine) and have been since January 2013. The only side affects which I experienced were dry mouth and drowsiness but it has helped for my depression.
Feel free to PM me anytime.

Fluoxetine was the second antidepressant that I tried and has been the best one for me!

I experienced no side effects whilst coming on to it and it continues to help me a lot. I still do experience both depression and anxiety, but this lightens it enough so that I can engage in helpful strategies and take care of myself, which is apparently the ideal outcome. Meds work differently for everyone though so I hope this works for you, but don't be disheartened if it doesn't!

When I was on Prozac, I got better gradually and then when we upped the dose the last time I had a straight plummet down and I was back at rock bottom. When I had first started on it I had a lot of headaches, dizziness, and nausea. My appetite & weight didn't really change too much (thankfully). It wasn't a great drug for me and I was quickly taken off of it. Hopefully you have better luck with it than I did!
