Possible med change and worried about weight gain

I'm asking my doctor for a change of meds to something that works better for anxiety but am terrified doing that will take my control of my weight away and I can't cope with that- I'm not even coping with the weight I am. Does anyone have any experiences or advice?

Each wave a promise, a new hope reborn

It depends on the kind of medication and the specific. Anti anxiety meds - beta blockers, benzodiazepines etc don't cause weight gain, some anti depressants with anti anxiety effects may cause weight gain depending on the drug and the person, and many antipsychotics can cause weight gain....

Thanks. A friend with similar experiences said Prozac works for her without weight gain. I just can't bear to have my control over that taken away. I'm thinking an antidepressant with antianxiety might be the best but I'm really scared about the whole thing and how I'll cope at all

The majority of SSRIs like prozac, citalopram etc work well on anxiety and are weight neutral for the majority of people who take them.

Usually if a medication does cause weight gain it's because it increases your appetite, so you can alter your diet and increase exercise to ensure you don't gain weight.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Thanks. I need to talk to the doctor about that because appetite gain is hugely triggering for me at the moment
