Soo Im going to try and get healthier in 2014 and part one of this is to increase how much fruit and veg I have.
I thus thought that I would start a thread to see who wants to join me in having 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. I'm going to try it for a month and see how that goes!

“The only way that we can live is if we grow. The only way we can grow is if we change. The only way we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we are exposed is if we throw ourselves into the open.”
"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."
Yay!! I'm going shopping tomorrow!! My body has been battered by unhealthy food this weekend I'm actually craving healthy things now!

Thats always a good goal to have! I find its very easy to incorporate 5 a day into your diet so hopefully it wont be too difficult.
In lots of other European countries they find it weird that we aim for 5 a day when a lot of countries have so much fruit and veg everyday that they have double/triple the amount we do!
I love it when I actually crave healthy things, gives me a kickstart into wanting to do it!
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
Ahh I know the feeling! I am looking forward to eating healthy things!!

It's funny when I cook I tend to have a load of veg but I'm awful at cooking for myself! Anyway I just bought a banana so that's one down four to go!!!
I feel I should make a mod comment here that food lists aren't allowed and that this is about health so please be aware when posting blah di blah!!

Suggestions are: Have lots of mixed salad in your sandwich (sweetcorn, grated carrots, beetroot, cucumber, lettuce, chopped sugar snap peas, peppers, tomatoes, onions etc.)
Mash potatoes with other root vegetables.
Have a starter of home-made vegetable soup before your main, or a large salad.
Home-made pizza (you could just buy the pizza base if you're stuck for time) with loads of vegetables on top.
'Fondues' - houmous or cheese with vegetable dippers, or little pots of sweet sauce/a little bit of melted chocolate with fruit dippers.
Chocolate-covered strawberries.
Wedges of watermelon... because, watermelon.
Okay, some of those are maybe more treat-like, but healthier treats!

I'm going to try for a month and see how it goes as apparently it's 28 days to make a habit?

I tend to eat lots of veggies (vegetarian), but on my bad days (depression, grrr), I just eat whatever is there. I should look at making batches on my good days and putting it in the freezer. I make veggie chillis etc. I think I could try to incorporate more veggies though, and fruit. I could eat more fruit.
I guess on better days I eat enough of my five a day, but I need to make myself do it on the bad days too.
I did my 5 a day a few days back;
Summerberries smoothie I made, NOMS.
The had carrots, broccoli, peas, broad beans and cauiflower
And then I made a veggie stirfry for tea, which was yummers
'Cause I'll always remember you the same.

It only takes a few mins to make too :)
Just select your chosen berries and chuck them in, whizzz them and you'll end up with a yummy smoothie! Easypeasy *nods*

This comes pretty easy to me because I think everything's better with fruits or veggies. I am also insatiable so it helps fill me up to add extra to my meals. I usually try to do a fruit, apple sauce or juice with breakfast. For lunch, it's either dinner leftovers, a giant protein-y salad with spinach and whatever else I have, or a sandwich with veggies on it and carrots on the side. Dinner is all over the map. I freaking love pasta and have it 2-4 times a week. I throw in diced tomato, spinach, bell peppers (capsicum), broccoli, whatever you like (those are my favourites). If I am eating meat and rice or potatoes, I steam some broccoli or mash some cauliflower on the side. You can also put soooo many veggies into curries and stews.
If money is an issue, budgetbytes.com is freaking awesome and helps you plan meals and make the best of cheap, bulk ingredient purchases. As far as I can tell, most of the recipes contain at least a veggie serving and it's quite easy to put salad or frozen veg on the side if not. The big thing is looking for sales. I stock wayyy up on frozen stuff when the price is right.
well, i have sown untidy furrows 'cross my soul,
but I am still a coward,
content to see my garden grow so sweet & full
of someone else's flowers.
