Fed up of therapy

I see a clinical psychologist and we started off discussing how badly I relate to food and somehow it always gets turned around to developing a social circle. It then turns into I need to practise and try out trusting people. I have told him over and over again I don't want to. I am able to function if I am friendly and I appear sociable, but to be honest only do it because I have to. He tried me with a befriender service and the coordinator just went on about how her husband was having problems and I felt I was befriending her! I have said several times that I want to do something practical to change how I feel (not socialising! I just want to feel ok as I am) and if I have to spend one more session going over the reasons why I feel and react the way I do I shall scream. Is there such a thing as a therapy that has practical outcomes as I'm fed up of talking for the sake of it.

It does sound like you are trapped in a vicious circle with this particular therapist. I don't know if there might be an oppurtunity for you to work with another therapist? x

you might find CBT or some other behavioral therapy helpful? that way you wont just be sitting and talking about the same thing over and over

can you ask to see a different therapist, it sounds like you are stuck in a ruck with this one and a change might be helpful

Thanks. Before him I had a psychotherapist that went on long term sick after 2 sessions, then months of nothing to a counsellor who was nice but couldn't manage to CBT who referred me to a psychiatrist as she couldn't manage either. This is the last person left. I need to make him understand what I need to change, such as repeating negative thoughts, and what I am ok with that helps me to manage life. I will try again next week and then I think I'll leave as it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
