Medication..?

So my doctor put me on Abilify for depression about a month ago. It started out fine, and things really have gotten better so far. Except now I feel blank. I can't really feel any emotion.. I kind of oddly miss being angry and upset over nothing.. Even though it was bad it was at least something. I almost want to stop taking the pills.. Has anyone else on depression medication felt like this? Please tell me I'm not alone.

I felt like this when I first went on citalopram, I was just numb all the time. A month isn't long though in terms of medication kicking in. I'd wait it out a bit longer and see how you progress. I think most doctors like to wait about 6-8 weeks to see if the medication is working. If the numb feeling is really distressing you though maybe you could speak to your doctor about it? Hope you're feeling a bit better soon!

I've felt that way while I was on citalopram too,
But I was only on it for a few weeks. I heard that it can sometimes take a few months for antidepressants or any mental health medication to kick in. The numbness sometimes goes away or it doesn't.

I would talk to your doctor if you still feel numb after a few weeks.

Thats a bit strange for abilify to be prescribed as an antidepressant? Its normally used as an add on to depression treatment or mainly used for bipolar disorder to regulate the moods.

I was on abilify and it made me feel really numb and heartless. I had to feelings, no emotions to anything. it was like i was a blank canvas all the time. My doctor was a bit of a jerk and said its better to feel like that then on a emotional rollercoaster but like you i disagreed.

Give it a bit longer maybe a week or two and if it doesnt sort it self out then ask to be weaned of it and try another type of medication.

Oh wow yeah, sorry I phrased that wrong in the original post. My doctor put me on Abilify for the mood swings mainly, but they apparently have helped with the depression. (sorry I forgot to mention that).

I'm on Abilify for mood swings and depression. It doesn't seem to work for the depression but it has helped tremendously with my mood swings and made me way more stable.

It definitely makes me feel different in some way, maybe not blank or emotionless but not myself either. I personally though don't want to be how I was before though, and at first I did miss the mood swings at times, but the longer I've been on the medication the less I've missed them and the more glad I am that I don't have them anymore.

I'm sure its different for each person. Thats just my personal experience with it. Maybe give it a little more time and see how you feel? Or speak with your doctor about how its making you feel. Or do both :)
