Boyfriends and cutting.

Before my boyfriend and I started dating, I cut a lot. My ex wasn't all too kind. But I stopped when I starting dating my current boyfriend, seven months ago. He had been irrevocably mad at me over the LITTLEST things. He was really mad last night, so in a frantic attempt to control myself, I cut. And he's mad.. or hurt. I'm not sure which. He won't talk to me about it either, until he's ready. He's with his friends right now, and I feel like my self injury just isn't important. Help?

Ah from what I know, guys don't like talking about how their girlfriends hurt themselves...

I am sure he does care about it but maybe he doesn't know how to express his feelings towards what happened.

You start life with a clean slate. Then you begin to make your mark. You face decisions, make choices. You keep moving forward. But sooner or later there comes a time where you look back over where you have been and wonder who you really are.

I'm a bit confused, are you saying that this is the first time he's found out about your self injury? If that's the case he's probably just shocked, upset and angry. He doesn't know how to respond. I'd give him time. Let him do exactly what he's doing; hang out with friends and cool down. If you try to talk to him when he's not ready sh*t will seriously go down.

When you talk to him try to take both your feelings in to account. Admit that his anger does upset you, but don't blame him for relapsing. That's not going to help. Also listen to his side of the story, and try to take account for what he is trying to say. Maybe if you both know how each other feels about this, you can come to a compromise.

I actually have a pretty similar situation. From my experience, it seems to be that they just get scared...so anger is a natural reaction. I would say to let him cool down, because trying to talk when emotions are high like that can cause more problems. When he's ready to talk, just tell him the truth. He'll respect that more and want to help....if that doesn't happen, he isn't worth your time. Good luck. Don't worry too much, everything will be okay. *hug*
