I just have a quick question I would appreciate your opinions on :)

I wasnt sure whether to post here for ED forum but i decided on here. Feel free to move :)

Anyway...

Is purging a form of Self harm or ED?

Or is it a matter of opinion or the way in which it is happening?

And could it potentially be both?

Sorry a bit confused at the moment

I'm no expert in purging but from what I've read it's part of the eating disorder.

I think it is all kind of inter-related. Though I think it would classify more as part of an ED and less like what is typically considered "self-injury"...tho I think it does fall under the more general "self-harm"

Why are you purging?

If it's to loose weight or any of the traditional eating disorder reasons then its definately an eating disorder.

I guess it could be considered self harm if you were doing it to destroy your body but hum I think that would be a very random form of self harm.

You may have a different reason and yep?

In my opinion yes, ED's are a form of self harm, but people can be quite split on this.

More importantly, why are you doing it, and do you want to stop?

Its a form of self harm but on the eating disorder side of self harm.

Thankyou all very much for your replies :) and sorry for my really late reply :)

Is it bad that i don't really know why i am doing it? I don't have an ED, but i guess when i eat i feel like i should get rid of it and i have kinda got used to throwing up after i eat (i have been doing it for a while). I thought that because i dont have an ED (as its usually associated with that) it was a ...'different' form of SH that i was subconsciously doing or something, but its slightly random. I dunno!!

Hi Hannah, I'm no professional obviously lol, but I think since you do purge that would qualify as an ED. You might speak with a professional to see what could be the underlying cause of your wanting to purge yourself before it goes any further but that's just my 25 cents worth :)
