i am sick to death of how my family think im ok, they critise why i take the tablets i do saying i dont need them and im fine, and why am i still going to the pysch.
Im diagnosed BPD i have insomnia and depression and they say im bulimic, my main concern is my state of mind i cant think straight i always think people are against me i think of suicide constantly.
I felt the way i do for years now and it dosnt seem to be getting better at all, i think it all boils down to a terrible stage in my life i went through.
I cant tell my parents this as they would be devasted and quite frankly just wouldnt understand or probably still thinking im ok, but its cause i cover it up i cant tell them and im fed up with covering how i feel up i just want to scream.
I feel like noone takes me seriously, im 21 and im so lost at the moment i dont even know what i feel it changes so often, i cant hide it but i cant tell either.
I can relate to this. I have PTSD and GAD, relating to something that happened to me when I was younger that I can't tell my parents. I have a lot of trouble in school and day-to-day life.
My best advice is, if you can, share with them your diagnosis. You don't have to tell them "why" you have it or anything more than that. I've found telling my parents I have a severe anxiety disorder got them off of my back in a lot of ways. Best of luck.
I have these problems, I also have BPD, insomnia and depression and my parents just do not get it, my mum moans at me for taking medication, i sleep badly and my mum has a go at me, I hide the worst from them because I dont want them to find out how bad I really am.

Yeah, my parents didnt notice anything was wrong and didnt quite believe me when I finally told them, which I did only because I was making a doctors appointment and I'm still on their insurance. I'm about your age. One of them warned me about the stigma of being on anti-depressents. Right, like I want to be feeling this way and want to be on medicine. And yeah, one of them never talks to me about it, the other has just started trying. They don't know how to handle it.
Perhaps sharing some factual information from credible sources will help?

Every day the world is made a chance to change but i feel the same.
And I wonder why would i wait till i die to come alive?"

i dont think i could share anything its been 4 years now, makes me so lonely, when they say oh why do you go there (cmht) im thinking i dont want to but im not well, i wish i could feel normal and be happy i dont no what it feels like, its so horrible
In short: no. They think my depression is sheer laziness, and some of the things I do is because I want attention (including my SI).
I tried explaining that the doctors declare me incapable of having a job, but they think I am just again being lazy, and scrounging off the taxpayer. They dont think I have challenges in my life with my mental health problems, but simply because I dont work I have an easy life, and little stress. When things are quite the opposite.

No. My parents call me lazy and selfish and all sorts of stuff. They think i'm fine but sometimes I act up just to piss people off. I can't talk to them about anything. They haven't been parents to me for a very long time.
"Alright, gang. I'll ignore that some of you are late... if you ignore that I'm the latest."
my family defantly dont understand... until abotu a year ago my mum claimed that mental illnesses weren't even real
I've been diagnosed with PTSD, DID and bulimia, but my mum has come to the conclusion that I'm psychotic and that I'm too fat to be bulimic... in fact everytime i see her she tells me to go on a diet even when I was in hodpital with anorexia she told me over and over that I was not ill and shouldn't listen to the doctors as they were lying to me...
my dad doesn't know as I've never told him
My step-dad thinks I'm just "haviing my teenage years late" I've no idea what that's even meant to mean
and the rest of my family either don't know or think I'm just lazy and "over reacting to the past"
im so sorry to hear that shadow light, it dosnt even get spoken about in my house much, but i remmeber my mum saying you dont have bpd there nothing wrong with you the doctor is just saying that ....
its so hard to recover when the closest people around you dont even understand.
My parents don't know about my depression; I've put in a lot of effort so they won't find out. My Mother is a very ignorant person and I know if I told her, she wouldn't be understanding, she'd most likely ridicule me for having a mental illness. So I keep that part of me private like most aspects of my life.
I wouldn't say they understand completely, but they are incredibly understanding.
I suppose it helps that my mother is a gp and has a working understanding of mental health issues. She and my father are both considerate and supportive. It isn't easy for them, obviously, but they try to do all they can. As a family we deal with it better now than we did five or more years ago, when I was a teenager and everything started to go downhill.
Sometimes my parents show an understanding & sometimes they don't. When I first got diagnosed with depression, all those years ago, they were supportive. It's only recently that my MH has been going downhill & I got diagnosed with Bulimia, BPD & GAD. They won't accept that - say I am just lazy & doing it for attention, say there's no way I can have Bulimia because I weigh 2 tonnes, say I look up symptoms of psychiatric disorders & fake them so I can get diagnosed with the condition etc... which is not true & really hurts when they say that to me :(

When I told my parents I had bipolar, they googled it. My mum wasn't happy that I went to hospital and didn't tell her, but she's okay now. I don't really speak to my dad much so I don't know what he thinks. She also nags me a lot about taking my medication - I suppose that's a good thing. I don't really have anything to complain about, I'm glad I told them and I'm getting a lot of support from them (my mum). I don't know if they understand fully, my mum thinks all my problems can be solved with counselling and hypnosis, but I get support, which matters I guess.
