Depends on what you are coming off of. Generally you'll be much more comfortable detoxing professionally than you would be at home, not to mention detoxing from alcohol or benzodiazepines without proper supervision can be fatal.

decided today is my last day of drinking, i dont care how much i shake/throw up/not be able to even speak. i'm done. i've lost so much because of it. i've told mum not to get me any more drink no matter how much i beg and if i get that bad she can have me arrested again and let the police deal with me, she's put up with enough. i have about 10 burns i dont remember doing, my mouth is sore from throwing up and i'm sick of feeling like **** at 3am everynight and not being able to even walk to to the bathroom.

Depending on how much you usually drink, it may be best to medically detox. At the very least, have someone else around. Detoxing from alcohol can cause seizures, and if not dealt with properly, possibly death.

I definitely wouldn't advise you doing it by yourself. As others have said, it can be dangerous

yeah i know. i'm down to 4 litres of cider a day now rather than a litre of vodka. i reckon if i can just put up with the shakes etc i won't fit. got mum to get me some today, i've had a pint to stop the withdrawls so i think i'm just gonna have a pint when i wake up to stop feeling bad eventually i'll be able to cut it out. the wait list for home detox here is about a month and i dont wanna wait that long

The best way doing it by yourself is to just reduce it slowly. A man I met at a group I went to did something similar to what you're doing. Even if you just cut it down by one drink a day that's a good achievement.
