So my ex girlfriend got herself sectioned and is in a mental hospital or unit of some description in Birmingham. I want to go and see her but have no idea how to find out where she is. So what are the possible places, anyone have any ideas??
Thanks, I really really need to find her.

It depends where abouts in Birmingham it is, and what happened when she got sectioned.
The main ones that I know about are the acute assessment wards at Selly Oak Hospital, they're wards E1 and E2, and are generally used if people go in through A&E there, they're only very short stay wards and the staff there are pretty fussy about visiting, and they're mostly for older people, although anyone can be admitted there for a short period of time.
Other than that, most of the care in central Birminham is based at the Barberry and Oleaster centres, which are on Vincent Drive, near the university medical school.
The Barberry has the more specialised wards, such as ED services and the Oleaster has the "general" ie less specialised wards. They're both easily phoneable, but again, visiting can be a bit restricted.
I don't know about outside of this area of Birmingham, and obviously it is a big city.
Does she have her phone? I'd try and text her, and ask her where she is, and then maybe contact the ward and find out what the situation is about visiting. I hope you and her are both okay.

Thankyou so much. I did a bit of online research and I think Vincent Drive correlates with the old site of Queen Elizabeths Mental Hospital? Might be wrong.
Tbh, neither of us are okay. It would have been through A and E.
She doesnt have her mobile with her. We wrote to each other when she was first admitted but I used to send them via her old student house and someone would take them for her. I dont have any of there numbers but I guess I could write to the house and try and find out more.
Im a complete state about it all.

Yes, the Barberry and Oleaster are essentially the new Queen Elizabeth Psych hospital.
How long has she been in for? Because of she's been in longer and is in south/central Birmingham (and especially if she is at the uni of Birmingham) then she is likely to be in the Oleaster.
Could you contact her flatmates through facebook or something, if you know who they are. I'm guessing you'd get a response quicker that way.
I hope things start to get better.

Shes been in since mid November?? So probably the Oleaster by the sounds of it?? If I rang up would they tell me whether she was there or not?
And I only heard about 1 of her housemates, have no idea of her surname or anything. She had only started uni in September. To train to be a mental health nurse of all things. Think that dream is well and truelly over now.
Thank you for all of your help. You have been absolutely fantastic.

Newbridge house appears to be specifically for eating disorders which is not what is up with her! Thanks anyway.

It's no problem. I'm not sure if they'd tell you, but I imagine if you rang the switchboard number then they might be able to inform you. Confidentiality and all that are a big thing, but someone should be able to help you.
Also, as I said, bear in mind she might not be there, there are other inpatient services in Birmingham, but these are the only ones I've had any experience with.
I hope you find her, and that things do start to improve. Can you speak to her family at all? They'll probably also be able to help you.
PM me if you need any other help, contact numbers or anything, and go carefully.

I didn't know Newbridge House was specifically for ED's. I googled and there is one also called Newbridge House in Sutton Coldfield for Ed's which you're probably referring to.
She doesnt really have any family unfortunately. Our relationship was quite weird in the way that I didnt know any of her contacts and she didnt know any of mine. We met over the internet you see.
I dont suppose you know how far the Oleaster centre is from New Street Station do you??

35mm, sorry my mistake. In my haste I overlooked the obvious. I'm such a panicked mess right now I'm not being very good at being careful and thorough which are normally things I am obsessive about.

Oh, I should have replied to this in PM. If you get the train from New Street to University then it's about a 5 minute walk. Not far at all.
