Severe depression and P.T.S.D

Hello everyone,
I'm interested to hear from members who have/had P.T.S.D and severe depression.
I currently have cpn who visits me once a week(not sure this week though due to the snow:( but nevermind) I was up to session 14 with my therapist for the treatment of P.T.S.D but it came to an abrupt halt when we had a communication breakdown(we dident click anyway so maybe not a bad thing).
Just waiting for a re-referal where I will start EMDR therapy, its something to do with eye movement I think, also I am been assessed by a phychiatristhave I spelt that right, because when my mum was around she was a manic depressive.
I take medication which is venlafaxine I think its working but only been on it for 4 weeks so I guess i'll just have to see.
Before that I was on Prozac for almost 14 years, tried a few others in between but always went back to prozac but over the last 2 years I think it just 'pooped' out on me or it could have been the incidents which caused my P.T.S.D,anyway I'm going to leave it at that for now and maybe in the future I will go a bit more into detail.

So glad I found this forum sometimes it feels like your all alone when theese illnesses are at the front of your mind and just consume you.

I wish you all well and hope I can be of some help or when I need a bit of support hopefully someone can help me

Hi Humpty Dumpty
I have PTSD if you believe one pdoc and a severe GAD if you believe another along with a measure of dissocation and suffer from depression although that is mosly under control currently. I've also been on meds on and off for many many years.
I know what you mean when you say sometimes it feels like you're all alone - boy do I feel like that IRL. Thank *** for the internet.
Ce

Hi there, I have suffered with Major Depressive Episodes in the past but never been diagnosed with PTSD. Welcome to RYL by the way :)
I think it's good that you have been referred for EMDR, I've heard good things about that. You are right, it is to do with eye movements and memories and such.
I also think it's positive that you are going to be assessed by a psychiatrist.
Feel free to message me if you'd like a chat about anything.
(hugs)

I have been diagnosed officially with long term major depression, and I do get more severe episodes in amongst general low mood etc. I'm therapeutically 'diagnosed' with Complex PTSD due to childhood trauma and protracted abuse.
I'm in private psychotherapy, take mirtazapine [curr. equiv. of 22.5mg/day] and am in homeopathic treatment. [also privately].

I have PTSD (and DID), don't have depression though. And currently between psychs so only treatent is meds (200mg sertraline)

Heard a lot about EMDR, it does sound effective, though apparently it can be very hard and at times painful

This weather's mad at the minute,I love the snow but hate been so god damm cold!,feeling a bit cut off really because I dont think my cpn is going to be able to make it 2morrow because the roads are so bad,but safety comes first.
(This P.T.S.D has made me safety obsessed by the way) oh and while I'm starting to rant ...depression sucks

Hi I have the same diagnosis and have had EMDR which apparently is the gold standard for trauma treatment. I am also on Mirtazapine which I find helpful. EMDR is helpful but my therapist uses it in conjunction with other approaches which are also helpful and if we just did EMDR I don't think I would find it that helpful. We also do somatic psychology, Cbt etc etc. For me the most helpful thing is the relationship when I hit real lows that is the thing that keeps me going. Sorry that ended up really long. I have seen 5 psychologists/psychotherapists before this one so it's worth persevering till you find one that works for you!
