Reality??

I think this is the right spot to post this, but if not feel free to move it... Ok lately I been thinking about life and everything in it kinda. But I started thinking how do we know this is real? Like what if my life isn't just some kind of dream that i'll wake up from or a figment of my imagination? Anyone else ever wonder this?

I think quite a lot of people experience this from time-to-time. It's a little bit like the Truman Show, where thinks his life's real but it's actually all a TV show. In some ways, it's not surprising that humans have slightly bizarre thoughts and surreal experiences sometimes, because after all, this universe would blow our minds if we really had to sit down to think about it!

It's hard to ever know if it's real or not. I had a nurse tell me once that there are theories that this world is just a hologram of a parallel universe right across the other side. Weird.

At the end of the day, all we can do is get on with what we were already doing.

I used to wonder about it all the time...
But I never got anywhere so I always gave up.
Know you have me thinking about it again!

I worry about this a lot but then I often don't feel real or that things around me aren't real (depersonalisation) so it's a big worry and quite scary.

there is scientific proof that your brain creates a good deal of your reality.
(& i wish i could find the study on it that i read)

you taste chicken how you believe that chicken tastes, but you cannot prove that someone else tastes chicken like you do.
as the same for colours, sounds, etc

how can you prove that the person you last saw exists when you aren't having contact with them? or even if you are seeing & listening to them, how do oyu know they are having their own independent thoughts in their head?

science says we are alive because of a beating heart, etc, but how do you know science is not fabricated by your own mind, for instance.

no-one else here may well exist, either as a name on a forum or a person in real life, i may not even exist but be a being of imagination & that none of this is real if you like.

kant is great to read on this subject.

I had a phase where I wondered the same thing to the point of driving myself nuts. Now I chose not to overthink it and just be. Because there is really no way to know. Beside, if it wasn't real, what could we do about it?

I think you have to accept your reality at face value, even if it differs from those around you. I fail to understand how you can question a part of your realtity without doubting the validity of the rest. What if nothing's real? What if you're completely psychotic and the reality of your life is entirely different to what you experience?

I think questioning reality can lead you down some very treacherous and confusing paths. It's much easier to just accept that everything is real without questioning.

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination

I don't really spend any time wondering if this is all real or not, just tend to live it and feel that things, people etc around me are real.
I suppose that a sign of the fact that this is reality is because I know when I'm psychotic and losing touch with it. If there was no reality then I wouldn't notice the transition between it and psychosis or the psychotic symptoms themselves.

I have had quite a few long arguments/decisions about this and other philosophical concepts. Tends to happen more at night and go round in ridiculous circles until people give up.

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future
that year by year recedes before us.
It eluded us then, but that's no matter - tomorrow we
will run faster, stretch out our arms further...

And one fine morning -
So we beat on, boats against the current,
borne back ceaselessly into the past.

When you have experience physchosis and taken lsd for example ,there is a lot to think abou ,like what the hell is real.Sometime when Im having a lucid dream and I awake and Im in alpha state ,its very scarey because i dont know whats real.Carlos Castenda is great for reading to explore the unconscious ,its bonderies and hallucgenic states.I think what the greater population believe is whats real ,like if Im walking down the street and everybody else sees a man standing there ,then ...hes gotta be there.
We only use a samll percentage of our eyes and of our brains and if we were to see the world as it were ,then we would go crazy.
I remember reading Huxleys The Doors To Perception ,and this is all very interesting where he transcribes his mescalin experiences to the reader .
He took lsd on his death bed and was the first man to report his experiences to others first hand.
Reality is a state of mind, there is none the two of us the same ,none the two of us the same thoughts in our heads .Why are there so many rows and arguments ,so many disagreements ?Is is the few times that our realities connect that there is rare happiness.

I've thought about this before but it doesn't really bother me in any way because in a way reality isn't necessarily a physical thing so reality kind of has to be right here, right now, even if it isn't, if that makes any sense at all?
As in even if everythings not technically "real" in order to get the best out of it you still have to treat it if it is anyway.
