Multiple Personality disorder (?)

I saw a different cpn today (mine is away on holiday) I think she is my replacement for whenever he is away. She let slip that I probably have this condition (it's still questionable but she said 'very likely') but said it isn't allowed to be called this anymore and ran off some other name instead (which I've forgotten because it was a very stressful appointment). I'm a bit confused about it really cos I've never heard of it. I was wondering if anyone here might have a similar diagnosis and can point me in the direction of support/reliable 'Becca proof' (e.g. easy to understand) information about it at all?

I do speak to 'Hearing Voices Network' I'm rather a help the symptoms sort rather than thinking about diagnosis, but was wondering if maybe somewhere else might be more helpful to me? I was led to believe (falsely it has turned out) that I had borderline personality disorder, but when contacting the support places for it I found they couldn't help with the most distressing things I experience (though some things I found them helpful with).

Hope this makes sense!
x

The Dissociative Distress thread is here: http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum...ead.php?t=4426

There are various other people with DID who post in there.

We are diagnosed as DID, dissociative identity disorder (which is the current correct terminology) *waves*

There is lots of decent information around, but you have to be careful to use sites with credibility.
There is an informational DID thread posted by Facet too here on the mental health board.
Also you could check out the 'dissociative distress thread'

Does your replacement CPN converse/discuss your care with your regular CPN? Why hasn't the regular one mentioned this? It'd be helpful to get some confirmation from your ongoing CPN, to see what it is all about.

We will post back later with some links - some good and easy ones (Becca proof :))

Thankies for the replies!!!

I have suspected for sometime they had diagnosed me but refused to tell me with what. I had been told previously it was borderline I had (which is what people must have if they self harm - I questioned the diagnosis cos I wanted to know which criteria I met after a gp questioned it and their response was if you feel suicidal and self harm then that's it). Basically I thought it was still that. But this person basically said 'people like you, that have multiple personality disorder blah blah blah' and I went 'what?' and then she mentioned the disassociative thingie you guys have like that was the reason for my 'what?'. I wonder if I have been diagnosed but cos my regaulr cpn, to quote him, 'doesn't do diagnoses' (he doesn't agree with giving mh patients a diagnosis) he hasn't mentioned it.

I dunno. Tis confusing.

*goes to look at suggested threads*

The diagnosis makes a lot of sense.
And I'm so glad that you're getting some support.

I'm still around and about and thinking of you.
