Truth or lie to professionals

So I just had to get stitches in my leg. It was done on purpose but I lied to everybody, my family, the medical personnel. I knew what would happen if they knew the truth...now I feel bad, glad to be home but guilty for not being truthful. I donít know how to deal with this. How to keep from letting this lead to further incidents....

Hello, welcome to RYL.

Sorry to hear that you're not doing too well. Where's your head at with self harm- do you want to stop/reduce?

I think most of us here have told multiple lies to cover up self harm before (I genuinely never lied about anything until I started self harming). It's not ideal because often the person we lie to might be able to help if we told the truth, it's an in-the-moment self preservation thing and I don't think you need to beat yourself up about it.

We may not see eye to eye, but we can respect each other's opinions and find the truth in them.
Perhaps in those honest conversations, instead of demonising each other,
we might see each other as imperfect humans, doing our best. ~ Jodi Picoult
