Trigger songs

Entirely ridiculous question and not really requiring specific support as such. But a song just came on Spotify shuffle and it just takes me back to the worst of my mental health time period. It’s ok, I mean I can put it aside and continue with Netflix or whatever waste of time activity I was doing. But I just wondered if other people has these songs. It’s not even an ‘emo’ song (ok, is a bit (Daniel merriwether-red). It doesn’t trigger anything, just takes me right back to how I felt emotionally at that time. There are a few others too. Just wasn’t expecting it.

Not a huge deal cos don’t feel like acting on any behaviours and once I refocused was ok, was just a little surprised I guess.

Yes I have definitely had that occur with some songs. You are not alone.

Yes I have a specific song that I find triggering. If I can I switch the radio off/turn the TV onto another channel. Fortunately it's 20 years old so it's played less frequently now than when it was fairly newish.

yeah

there's music/movies/tv shows/particular clothing/foods etc that in my brain are so strongly associated with a particular time period event or person that it can take me right back there mentally especially if it's unexpected
