It's not impossible that one day RYL will just vanish. It's also not impossible that it will just trundle on forever- it's certainly giving it a good go!
A Much Loved Member has investigated the possibility of making a new forum, based on the shared belief that forums and specifically RYL forums are the greatest style of support site ever invented. It wouldn't look exactly the same but would very much be modelled on our much-loved site. It would also have the advantage that things wouldn't be broken and we could do things like username changes and maybe even overthrow my dictatorship and have other mods! And update the super-cringey rules (my personal favourite example in the rules of what not to post is "does anyone know where I could get drugs?" :P).
All current active RYL members (whether you are a frequent poster/chatter or just an occasional RV-er or even a serial lurker) are invited to choose from the following options.
1) Let's make a new RYL now!
2) Let's stay here until everything breaks and then seek refuge in a new RYL
3) Nothing will ever replace RYL, I'm staying here til the end then not going anywhere else
4) MOAR LESBIANZZZZ
If there is overwhelming support for (1), we would do that although obvs can't force anyone to move!
If (2) is very popular I would PM members who I don't already have irl contact with (and who didn't vote for option 3!) and give them my email address for them to store somewhere safe so that they can email for details of The New RYL if the time comes. Then we wouldn't do anything else until everything becomes unusable here.
If neither is very popular then I won't do anything but I'd maybe advise getting contact details of anyone you like from this site in case one day you can't get on here.
Please post thoughts and questions if you wish.

A little sleep is always a good idea! I had one this morning not long after waking up, just because I fancied it- I didn't even have any important decisions to make :P
we kind of like the idea of having someplace set up now. that way even if it's not active or not used until needed, there is something there for peace of mind if need be? and that way it can be seen by those who come on here as like, this is a backup/space. especially given we can't have new members anymore a space for them might be nice.
but can understand why with limited to no moderators trying to manage two sites at once might become an issue.
but also being able to finally change usernames WOULD be nice lol
idk how to vote because i would not want to fully move until ryl dies but would also want a new ryl to have for if that does occur?

I decided to vote make a new RYL now because I don't know how long it would take to set up a new RYL and if classic RYL vanishes I wouldn't want to be left with nothing until the new one was set up.

Well I'm thinking I should have voted option 2 now if it could be going on in the background and ready if RYL should die. Because I like this RYL. I never vote for the lesbians!

I like the idea of making one now so it's there for when the time comes but also if it's made now it might be a bit established for when RYL is no longer and it won't be like starting a fresh 'completely' - if that made any sense!

I have conversed with the Much Loved Member today and I was reluctant to pay for hosting for something that might not be needed for years, but they pointed out that if we make it while RYL isn't dead, then we can have it there while we're making it and decide what elements of RYL we want to recreate etc. And also I can see by the surprisingly high votes for option 1 that at the very least it would be important for the new site to be ready immediately rather than having to wait around.
More news to follow. Further thoughts about this or indeed about lesbians always welcome!
