Advice needed

Hey

I am starting college in September, I am a mature student(I am 37 years old) and I have applied for a bursary. I also work(5 hours a week) and my income is never much over 250 a month. I claim ESA and I don't know what will happen with my benefits once I get my bursary. Do I need to ring them? And will it be stopped?

just wondering if anyone else has been in my position and has advice?

I dont know the answer to your question fully but I do know that any change of circumstances triggers you to be moved onto universal credit. So you would lose your esa anyway unless you declined your college place. I dont think you can claim universal credit and be a full time student unless you claim pip and are unfit for work.

If your college place is full time, DWP expect your bursary/loan yo cover your expenses.

Part time is more complicated, you can still claim ESA as a part time student but given you're getting a bursary, your benefits will likely stop depending how much the bursary is.

It’s 2 and a half days. All day Tuesday and Thursday, then 2 hours on a Friday afternoon. I will ring the job centre on Monday. It isn’t a student loan I get, it’s a bursary to help with travel costs and to get equipment and stationary and uniform I need for my course.
