The visual element of the Discord forums is very similar to "chat". I think that would put a lot of people off, including myself.

I haven't fully kept up with this thread so apologies if I'm going over something that has already been asked... but does the "Option 1 - move now" vote mean we will keep running here until it fails entirely with a backup being planned in the background?
Nobody surely wants to be paying for a new forum that isn't being used until who-knows-when?

Please do not give me virtual hugs unless you are only using the hug function on threads. Thanks.

I voted for MOAR LESBIANZZZZZZZZZZ because why not
Seriously though... A few people mentioned Discord but were worried it would be too much like chat. I own two servers and admin two others and there are ways that it can absolutely be set up to be more like a forum.
You can change your username for specific servers, you can mute parts of servers that get too busy, or the whole thing and just check in when you want to; there are bots that can handle the rules and have people react to the rules to gain access to the server which cuts down on spammers and such... You can also set it up to have roles for certain parts so that anyone that doesn't want to see/interact with more serious topics doesn't have to unless they choose the role to do so.
It can be overwhelming to start with, but it's very user friendly and easy to get the hang of. You can also have more than one account for anyone wanting to keep their RYL life separate from everything else.
It's also very cost effective - because it's free unless you want to pay for your own Nitro subscription; which enables things like being able to use gif emotes, sending longer messages, being able to change your bio for each different server you're in and changing your profile header image, etc... BUT, if people wanted to contribute to keeping it running, there's always things like paypal donations, etc....
ETA: would be happy to help with this if Discord is the eventual option.

Personally I'm not keen on the discord forums. It just feels and looks like "chat" to me.

same. as someone who uses discord regularly would not want that for the future of RYL.

Staunch anti-discord here too :P
Also as a tiny update my co-conspirator informs me that The New RYL will start to exist in some form fairly soon - we've decided we're happy to fund it between us for now while it just exists in the background. I'm drowning in my own existence rn but when I stop doing that I'll have a proper conversation about what we're actually going to do!

Also I forgot that I'd fiddled the numbers on the poll and was so hyped for 53 MOAR LEZBIANS votes!!

Exciting stuff, but also sad at the same time.
Thank you for potentially saving us though, Jenna.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.
