Eh, don't do that, maybe it's just the way i read your last post, but it seemed like you were just attacking her for no reason. she had a point and it just seemed that you were critising her for suggesting something.
*shrug*
if it wasn't mean in a agressive way, sorry.

butyeah.

Maybe if they did decide to have a room, it could be called 'Veterans Room' or whatever, but no specific age. Then nobody would actually be excluded because of their age.
I know I was 16 and dealing with rent etc so an age exclusion wouldn't have been good so it could just be generally seen as an older room but no specifics.
Hope that makes sense.

I have to agree with Spoons in regards to the poll.
It seems slightly invalid because the majority of RYL are younger members, so they would vote "no".

I think it should be discussed, and some ideas should be thrown out there. We could always have a trial period and if it doesn't work out, we could atleast say we've tried it.

A vets corner wont work. Its got nothing to do with life experience. Its simply to do with talking to people the same age. end of.

I see the trolls are at work again on this site. Jesus.

I have no idea why my post was edited. It was nothing agains the rules. I simply pointed out that there is a faction within RYL who make trouble and get a kick out of it.

I really dont understand this place at all. Supposedly full of intelligent people and yet it is seemingly becoming more and more impossible to have any sort of discussion without someone getting arsey!

Maybe this person wants to talk about menopause or some health issue that is typically unique to older individuals. If the op is talking about that, or some sexual dysfunction that occurs mostly among older people, then I can understand why she (or he) would not want to discuss it with the twelve to twenties crowd. I would be embarrassed to talk about certain issues with people young enough to be my children. There are plenty of kids wise beyond their years but it takes awhile of getting to know someone to figure out whether or not this is the case. I have known many teenagers who can fake maturity up to a certain point, until something serious happens. There are plenty who are sincerely mature too, so no reason for anyone to take offense. Then again, if that statement offends anyone then I can take a reasonable guess as to their maturity level. I don't care about what chatrooms or forums are created on RYL, but I thought people were getting unreasonably bitchy here.

Because someone on this thread claimed that trolls were not a problem in Vet Chat, I started thinking of the past. A certain memory disturbs me. No trolls? You could not have spent very much time there if you truly believe that. I got to deal with a few trolls, including one very persistant one. Because of one of those trolls I got to see what appeared to be a crime scene photograph of a murdered woman who had things done to her that I will not mention here because I don't want to upset anyone with the mental image. It actually does have me shaking a bit. Believe me, there were trolls.

Yes i heard about that. The groomers too.

I wasnt referring to the idiots who have ruined chat in the past with my comment. It was aimed at this thread being yet another that turns nasty for no reason.

It amazes me that a support site can turn so nasty.......oh well.

People groom over 30's?

This wasn't turning nasty until you starting hailing bloody murder at every person trying to get their view across, and yes, it was probably handled badly, but still, there's no point in just being cruel to everyone on RYL.

I don't think I've ever been cruel to anyone on RYL so I assume you are not talking to me. I don't know if there were groomers who went to Vets Chat specifically but that chat wasn't for over 30's. It was just for people from the Veteran Corner. I can, however, assure you that there were trolls.

*butts in and tries to get back to core issue*

Is there a way we can just have a trial run with with Vets room? I understand that it did not work in v2, but there are members that are obviously very... (cant think of the word)... passionate (shall we say) about giving this idea a try. So I mean.. why not try it for a week or so and see if they can hold up their end of the bagain... to keep it alive and use it for what they think.

I do not think there should be a set age limit on it. Personally I think that makes absolutely no sense because there is just no way the staff can keep that organized, it would simply be too much work. And then it brings up all the other issues that seem to have come out throughout this thread.

*butts back out*

So if you're 12 and have the mental maturity of a 30 year old, you still won't know about some of the stuff that the 'older' people will be talking about, just because you won't have experienced it.

That's not disrespectful to anyone, it's just how it is.

But anyways, I'm scared to go into the 'vets' section, cos its quite cliquey (spelling?)... I don't mean that to be disrespectful either, just that everyone knows each other and I don't fit in there. Hmm.
Come in and introduce yourself and people will talk to you :) But you can't get to know people if you don't take the first step! So just pop in and go, rah! And people will talk to you :)

Free Spirit, as some have mentioned there was a chat room made for Vets (older members). The reason it was made was that many felt intimidated by the younger members and couldnt relate to alot of the convo's in chat. However the forum was totally trolled by some of the regular chat members at the time who thought it hillarious to come and play in there and it scared those who wanted it away. Needless to say these were a few hardcore members who were nown for playing up.

As was said it didnt work. There simply werent and still arent the numbers to make it work. The trolls soon got bored but basically because of the lack of Vets who used it it was removed.

Also as you will find there are ALOT of younger members Who are incredibly mature and have alot to say and offer. Its something that can be a real eye opener to see such young and insightful people.

Take care Matthew
I'm only 24 but I know exactly where you're coming from matt :) And i know that, despite whatever maturity I may or may not claim there are some things I know zilch about and by being around would possibly make whoever was posting about the subject more uncomfortable.

Yesh! I agree with what you're saying crys :) I don't think maturity is being attacked... and it's well... immature to say "omg but i'm so mature, i know about stuff that will happen to a 30 year old even though i'm only 16..." because you can't know. Becasue you're not 30. And despite whatever maturity and life experience you may or may not have had, you have never been 30. I can say, I think this, but I don't know for sure becasue i've never been through it.

I remember the trolls. I got totally stuffed around by them and that's when I stopped using chat.

I don't think an extra room will work. There just simply aren't enough people. I really do reccomend vet's corner. And if you really don't want to mention something around people under 30 then maybe make a post asking someone over that age group to pm you?

Anywho, that's my 2 cents worth :)

This is getting a wee bit ridiculas...
To be honest, and this will get edited or something because, everything i post does (y) ive seen you in chat, free spirit, and i cant say i think you should be asking for a more 'mature audience' room in there. I know a lot of people around here who are 15-20 and are more mature than some that are 30+
Does our age mean we are mature or can't help with certain issues?
Granted, like Chelsey said earlier there are somethings people just don't know about because of age. I wouldn't have the first clue about how to take out a loan or pay my phone bill. But i really don't think that, that kind of thing is what your talking about here.

But hey, if you want a 30+ room.
I'd like a <25 room please.
