“The good things don’t always soften the bad, but vice-versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
“Nobody important? Blimey, that’s amazing. Do you know, in nine hundred years of time and space I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important before.”
“If it’s time to go, remember what you’re leaving. Remember the best. My friends have always been the best of me.”
Did you study a lot of Wilfred Owen and Sassoon? Some of their stuff is brilliant.
Yes! <3
I love their work, especially Owen's.
I remember we were reading a book called Strange Meeting in English Literature and there was a discussion as to whether or not the two main characters (both male) were in love with each other. Half the group said it was obvious they were, whereas the other half said that they were just incredibly close because they were in a war and comradeship was a big thing, and how the author said she never meant them to be gay. My English teacher settled the argument by saying this quote that I don't remember exactly but basically said "As soon as the author has finished, what they interpret the book as is irrelevant - it is up to the reader to decide". And I think that's very true.
The Wasteland is one of my favourite poems, my favourite section is probably;
'There is shadow under this red rock,
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.'

I agree with that, once an artist has released their work upon the world, it no longer belongs to them, it is for those that would find something beautiful in it, like a gift I feel.
I love Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen.

I have no idea what anyone is talking about. I don't follow poetry.

Yeah I remember that one fondly. Did you have to read the novels on the war unit too? Birdsong by Faulks was pretty great.

Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.
The only two poems I know and like are The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe and Then She Was Gone By Ginger Foutly.
No I'll take my leave until the subject turns to one I can contribute to meaningfully.

I think I'm going to retire to my room and watch my new DVD that I got today as a late birthday present (I won't say what it is because I may get covered in rotten fruit)
The only time you will find real light is when you're searching in the dark..
Yeah some of the novels drag on but Birdsong has a certain attracting fluency in it's prose that I loved.
