I have paranoid schizophrenia. When I'm ill, I have gone for 2-3 weeks without a bath or a shower, mainly because it doesn't occur to me that I should bathe. I also forget to eat or feel paranoid that people are poisoning me, so not only do I stink, I also lose several kilograms.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

Hey Alexi,

I'm sorry if i worried u or anything ..

I don't think i can spend time in the hospital without making my parents worry too much.If i do that it'll be like screaming out loud to the world that i am danger to my self and to the others.

It's not the first time i feel this way, but i feel like i sunk too deep in it.

I..feel like it won't stop unless i do something.

But i don't want to do something =/

Well I'm not diagnosed schitzoprenic, but I do have pychosis which Is similair I guess
When I was admitted to hospital I hadn't washed in a week
I feel sorry for the people who had to restrain me tbh, being that close to somebody who hasn't washed in a week (actually two weeks because I'd been in hospital a week at this point) and who sweats quite a lot anyway can't have been very pleasant :-/

I was very embarassed when I got more well and realised that I *stunk*

I guess when I'm ill I just have other stuff on my mind and like SteelMaiden said it just doesn't occur to you to wash
It's not a very important criteria and you don't really even notice that you smell. Even when people (gently) suggested that I shower I just ignored them because it just wasn't important to me

But yeah, think personal hygeine is often neglected by people with any mental illness

I don't have schizophrenia, but when my mood is very low I sleep most of the day and don't even get out of my pjyamas and dressed, let alone wash. I just don't have the motivation to care.

When I was in hospital last year, I didn't shower/bathe for two weeks. I also walked around in my pyjamas during the day and never changed my clothes regardless of whether I was sleeping or awake.

Like others have said, I think this is pretty common with mental illness in general when we're feeling low...that's what I've heard anyway. I have to say, it's definitely a relief to hear that others really neglect personal hygiene when ill...it can be kinda embarrassing, but not as much when you know you're not the only one. My hygiene definitely goes downhill when I'm having a difficult time with my depression.
