Recently actually I've been wondering why I am still here, why so many people are still here who were here back in the days - but other people, Belle, Craimee, etc, moved on?
Why am I still here?
Part of change was uni. A lot of people moved from RYL to uni in a massive wave around 2008 (and V3 was 2007). Ruin Your Life was exploding with people in 2002 and then RYL V2 came in 2003. The bulk of people were 13-15 (unlike now). Many grew-up on RYL and had members as friends outside the forum. Uni, Facebook (exploded around 2007 when it became public) etc came up around same time (2008ish) and forum fell south. Plus forums peak around 7 years or so. Owners get burnt on them (Lady from BUS faded too). Plus some people like to close chapters. That can be good. Some few times though I've seen people get attitudey about the past and I saw at least one talk about "depression friends" and how they dont like to keep up with them anymore. Kind of like they were too good now. But that can be ok too. These people are like 22 so still growing. I was already grown with no real probs so RYL was always just a place on internet. It reminds me of all good stuff. People also leave after burning out on staff lol.
Some people moved on after breaking their permanent bans stopped being fun.
And yet, I'm still here :P
But, some people who've gone still come back occasionally to check PMs and what not. And those that don't tend to know somebody who knows somebody and have an up to date journal/facebook =]
How are you? What's the haps? I feel like I haven't seen you on livejournal for a while, do you still use it?
I'm good! Final year of uni is pretty daaaamn stressful, mind, but apart from that all is well.
How're yooou?!
Ah, LJ, kinda forgotten about that for now. Might be scrapping it and starting a blog when I graduate & start travelling, we'll see, will keep things posted :)
And yeah, I was 13 when I joined RYL, and am now 21, and was definitely one of those people that 'grew up' on RYL. There are lots of things I don't want to be part of anymore, etc, but there are still some lovely people knocking around, and some good memories (despite the darker nature to why I joined in the first place)
I've just started postgrad studies in a doctorate of clinical neuropsychology, will be 25 this year. I guess it's kindof nice to look back at where we started here, and where we are now and realise, hey, we're okay. I'm a provisional psychologist - can you believe?! :3

Eeee, Dr Aimee! Well, I assume it's like a PhD here and you become a Dr?!
How exciting! Good luck!
I know! How things change!
I need to go to sleep, but for old time's sake, until I pop back again:
Thanks - wow two years ago is almost recent considering I don't remember seeing him after 2005-6. Then again I was never much on chat which was Todd's main place.
I saw a post by PA and it was funny since it seems like she should be 30 by now but she looked like she was 19. I forget how young some people are when they joined.
I was just reminded of Guest Visitor/Vanessa. She got married 4 years ago or so and that's last I heard from her but I used to MSN with her a lot.
