thank you all so much for your advice.

i have stopped using soap and have been using oilatum. ive ditched the e45, and ive had him sleeping in just his nappy the last few nights and have cut right down on dairy.

the redness has calmed right down and although you can still feel it, it doesnt look as angry so hopefully im doing something right.

I'm glad it's calming down :)

It does take a while for skin to totally heal, but if the redness has gone down then that's a really good sign that it'll be feeling better and starting to heal, and squishy face should be feeling much more comfortable :)

Glad it's improving.
I forgot to mention you could try this, you only need a small amount and it's also great for things like scratches and itchy bites, really good at stopping the itch and is anti-bacterial:

Elliot has baby ezcema and is allergic to all bath products and some soap powders. We use aveeno cream and oilatum bath. I still wash his hair with baby shampoo but make sure I do it just before I take him out the bath. He's also allergic to all wet wipes on his face so I use a wet flannel after his meals instead.

My mam has had severe ezcema all her life and is allergic to eggs but fine with most other foods.

Hydrocortisone is steroid so is great for severe flare ups but can't be used all the time.

Yeah it's fab stuff. Elliot uses it occasionally so I think it's ok for babies. More bad for long term use. My mam used it for 40 years and her skin is so thin it tears.
