for those who are saying that its only the lazy people who bother them and not those who have dyslexia - how do you know who is dyslexic and who isnt though? unless you know them personally or they have posted to say they have dyslexia how would you know? im just struggling to understand that part.

I was going to type a post without checking it or using the special software to prove this... but I'm too scared lol
But without this software I use no capitals, no full stops, no commers, etc. as I just have no idea how to use them! The software puts in little green dots in places where punctuation may be needed, and then I just guess which one could work and hope for the best.
also on a secondary note: this forum irritates me dyslexia wise as I have to have writing on a green or blue background to read it, so my laptop has a , blue filter. Unfortuately this means that i cannot always reed the topic names and area names from the front page was they are blue lol

Have you ever consitered highlighting the text with your mouce-pointer (uh..what's it called again)? It comes up blue backround on white text
sorry if that comes off as rude a bit, but it's kinda how i read most forums anymore since even nromal paragraphs come up as wall-text
I'm pretty bad for that. Grammar is my domain. I see a word misspelled, and it hacks at me. I just don't understand how other people can't see how it is obviously not written correctly. Most of the time, they're just too lazy to learn proper grammar. Though some can't help it. I'm tolerant of them. Sometimes I'll let them know. Other times, I'll just keep my mouth shut. I always fix it myself if I can.
In my head I am a grammar Nazi but I rarely mention it out aloud.
On the Internet and this here message-board, the only method of communication is typing messages and reading those messages. If people insist on typing like idiots, then other people are not going to be able to understand them so their points will be disregarded and ignored. If you want your point to be read and understood, don't type like your typical 12 year old girl who has just discovered the Internet.
Saying that, the spelling and grammar of this forum seems to be of a high standard so there is nothing to worry about.

I'm not a grammar nazi so to speak but some things grate on me. I can accept the occasional bit of text speak (lol, lmao, idk, tbh, tbf, cba <- I am lazy and use these frequently), a few spelling errors (because we all have words we have problems with) and a bit of inoccrect grammar (anyone want to explain semi colons to me?).
But
When Things Are Typed Like This I actually can't read them. It makes my head hurt. Also, total lack of commas and full stops. Come on! Even primary school kids can put the odd full stop in here or there. A giant block of text is migrane iducing.
In my head I'll correct things like your, you're, there, their, they're, lose and loose (oh lord does that annoy me)
I understand dyslexia and I know spell check doesn't always work as it might put in the wrong word if you have no idea how to spell it or just miss things like your/you're (I have a friend who had a lot of these issues with his Chemistry coursework).
And what coursework do you do that doesn't need to have at least good spelling and grammar? I had my Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Maths coursework at A-Level all checked and marked for spelling and grammar as far as I know. Pfft.
Actually thinking about it, aside from the occasional changing things in my mind I don't care too much, because well... I'm pretty useless at spelling and grammar myself. Apart from the Capitalising Every Letter and walltext/text without ANY punctuation which I just can't read at all.
It's only really when it's people I KNOW should know better. ie those who got a A* at English GCSE and are on target for a A at english A Level but still type withy REALLY bad spelling and grammar because they're being lazy. Or use excessive text speak online.

God. One forum I'm on looks like it's run by six year olds by the spelling. Errors can get a break. I used to have just horrid spelling, but the text speak may as well be my cat walking across the keyboard
people: be glad i didn't join two years ago. iw asn't abel to spell at ALL then. And capital letters didn't seem to exist either. it's better :P

BUT in essays and stuff like that I actually use it even though were not marked on it which me and class love :)
Ha! How things have changed! I still remember the little green grammar book from primary school and First Aid in English. Anyone know of them? I like to read correct grammar but I never say anything to anyone about it. I do wish my spell checker also had a grammar check!!!
I wish I knew, but even if someone came up with a reasonable explanation, I'd probably still want to beat them with a grammar guide.

Languages change all the time, though I suppose with that grammar guide you can't really go wrong. But yeah, just to say that language really isn't stagnant - new words evolve, people start using different expressions, sometimes new grammatical things. It's just how it goes.
(And I should know because my brother and I tend to play Scrabble on the basis of a dictionary from 1928. You'd be surprised.)
