CAMHS versus CMHT

Which do you think is best?

Points to consider:
- were they useful?
- did they respect you?
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude?
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously?
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential?

As someone moving from CAMHS to CMHT in December I will be really curious to see how this goes. My CAMHS psychologist has told me nobody in the CMHT will be as patient or helpful as him, so I'm not looking forward to it.

Heartbreak, incarnate, I'm nothing if not your memories.

It was the other way around for me. I found the staff at CMHT extremely helpful, compared to the ones at CAMHS, who were totally unsympathetic and leaked confidential information constantly.

I had a very good CPN in CAMHS who was incredibly supportive, patient and caring.
I've found CMHT are forever letting me down, although I'm hoping it's on the up now I have a new CPN. I did vote CAMHS but the upside of CMHT (where I live anyway) are that there are a lot more resources that CAMHS, such as crisis support and more access to therapy.

I only just moved up...but its alread so much better.

- were they useful?
He seemed like he would be.
- did they respect you?

Yeahh and i respect him back.
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude?

Very calm...not at all rude...unlike at CAMHS.
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously?

Took me serious...again unlike CAMHS who didn't.
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential?

Well so far so good...unlike CAMHS who told my mum everything.

I'd have to say CAMHS for sure! My psychiatrist was so kind and friendly and helpful he really understood what I was going through (sometimes it can be anoying though, lol). I wish I could go back to CAMHS! CMHT are crap, I hate my CPN she always questions me and I dont feel I can talk to her and my psychiatrist only sees me every 2 or so months! He's wired too!...

CAMHS
- were they useful? Not in the slightest.
- did they respect you? Well, they did to a certain extent.
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude? Sometimes rude
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously? Dismissed them as trivial.
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential? No, lots of things were told to my parents.

CMHT
- were they useful? Yes, extremely
- did they respect you? Always
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude? Calm
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously? Always take me seriously
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential? Always confidential

The CMHT are a MILLION times better than CAMHS.

I've only ever been with my CMHT and the EIP
(early intervention in pychosis)

The CMHT I found that they weren't very useful
They left me to get on with things on my own pretty much
My care co-ordinator and my pych were both arseholes, they were very rude to me and acted like I was wasting there time
On one occassion my pych got all pissy with me when I told him that I couldn't stop SI'ing on his order
On anothor occasion my care co-ordinator didn't believe me when I was experiencing pychosis.

Now I'm with the EIP they are brilliant
My pych is very nice and helpful and my CPN is an absolute life saver
She does a lot for me and has helped me manage my symptoms without having to go into hospital, the EIP has been very helpful to me

Anybody else under the EIP?

I've only been with CAMHS and don't think they are that good really, I mean they can be great but usually wait until after you have done something bad to act instead of trying to prevent it. I'll be interested to see the poll results when more people have voted though :)

See I cannot feel this, not matter how you try and in the real world, there's no goodbyes.

CAMHS
- were they useful?
Yes.
- did they respect you?
Yes.
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude?
Incredibly calm.
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously?
Initially (when I had only a counsellor) they dismissed my problems as trivial, but when I got a psychiatrist they were taking me very seriously.
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential?
Not until I turned 17. Beforehand I stopped telling them anything because they kept telling my parents.

CMHT
- were they useful?
Not really. They're quite useless tbh.
- did they respect you?
Dr. G didn't have an ounce of respect for me, but I think Dr. O does a little.
- did they speak in a calm tone of voice or were they rude?
Dr. G was a rude w*nker but Dr. O is less rude although I wouldn't say she is calming.
- did they dismiss your problems as "trivial" or did they take you seriously?
Dr. G always dismissed my problems as trivial and thinks that I am an "attention-seeking little girl with an overactive imagination". Dr. O takes me more seriously and agrees that I have serious mental health problems.
- did they keep your personal matters private/confidential?
Dr. G and Dr. O both kept matters confidential, but the Home Treatment Team sometimes told my parents when they thought I was at danger, when I didn't want them to tell my parents.

Overall, CAMHS was better.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
