Any suggestions?

I am going through a really rough patch right now and my mood is about as low as it can get which is very scary as I haven't felt this way for a long time.I have tried so hard to pick myself up but it's just not working.

Anyways I have spoken to my GP and therapist about going onto antidepressants to help deal with this and thoughts of self harm and suicide I have(I have had Prozac and Seroxat in the past which didn't agree with me) and they are both unwilling to let me go on them.My GP has said that she doesn't "agree" with them and that I am depressed because of my anorexia and lack of nutrition. My therapist doesn't trust me to take them sensibly which I can understand because I have overdosed several times on them, but I must say the last time was a couple of years ago and it was mainly because I was so frustrated they were having no effect I thought if I took loads I might feel better.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can bring up the subject again to try and convince them?

Thanks.

just because your GP doesn't agree with them doesnt mean she can just not prescribe them for you if she doesn't want to. its your health, not hers!
is there any way you could get an appointment with a nurse at your GPs practice, or a nurse at a hospital, and talk to them about it?

I am going to mention it to my therapist and GP this week as I have appointments with both and try and listen to their point of view as well as my own.

I have heard of something called supervised administration whereby I only get a prescription for sort of a weeks worth of tablets and then go back for more, meaning I only have a small amount in the house at one time...which I think might help.

I think I am worried myself about taking them if I was prescribed them, obviously it is my responsibility at the end of the day to keep myself safe at the moment but I feel it might be worth a shot trying them again. if it might help lift my mood in the short term.

Hey!

I have my sleepingmeds closly controled by my GP - i am only perscribed them in 8's (enough for 4 nights). I dont take them every night but rather every 3rd night so it lasts me almost 2 weeks.

Your GP should be fine about doing this if its in your best intrest. Your GP may also suggest as there appointments are tight that (if there is available) you return each X days to the nurse perscriber and for your meds and then see the GP perhaps once every 6 weeks.

Thats my experience anyway. It deffinatly is worth a try. be honest as you can with people.
