Hey there,

Depression doesn't need to have a cause. Whilst it's definitely true that some people become depressed as a result of abuse or trauma (or indeed another indentifiable reason), people can become depressed without a "reason" and that's OK. Depression is a mental illness, and so as an illness can be like any physical illness; there needn't have been a cause, it may just have "happened".

For some people though, there is an underlying physical cause; such as thyroid problems, nutrient deficiencies or in rare cases, depression can be a symptom of a more complex condition.

What ever the cause - or lack of - that doesn't negate the pain that depression can cause for a person and you're entitled to support and advice, just as much as the next person.

Have you considered seeking help for how you're feeling? Perhaps trying to speak to a doctor or someone at school (that's if you're still a student)?

x

Thanks for replying, I saw a Dr a few weeks ago and he told me to c a councillor but I don’t see how that’s going to help when I’ve got no reason to feel this why, ill have nothing to say.

1. You don't have to have been abused etc to 'have a reason'.
2. People place different levels of importance and seriousness on different things. Most people would assume a parent dying from cancer is worse than a divorce. However my friend was more upset about the divorce than her mothers death. Can you see my point?
3. You aren't alone. I've never had anything terrible happen either. PM me if you want.

you can be depressed and not know why [i often that worse not being able to pin-point the reason]..and in the same case, it makes ur feelings of despair JUST as valid as people who r depressed with reasons aparrent to them..

I've had this, feeling down for no perticular reason. at least none that i could think. there probably is something that just isn't too obvious.
also apparently, i've been told, people who SI have unpredicatble mood that can go up and down at a moment's notice. just try your bst to ride this through and you might find your mood lifting again eventually.
