Morning after pill

My Mum dragged me to the chemist to get the morning after pill on Friday after I had unprotected sex with a guy I met on the internet. Since then, I've felt so terrible about it as all I have ever wanted is a baby and there could have been a chance of pregnancy. I have since split up with my boyfriend so I know it would not have been fair on the child if I had become pregnant but I still feel so terrible and tearful about it. Am I being ridiculous? x

Your not being unreasonable. But you have to understand it's not good for a child to be brought into the world like that.

It's not safe to have sex with strangers you meet online - even more so that you have unprotected sex with them. Maybe it's wise to get checked out for STI's? You have no idea if he could has anything that he passed on to you.

No-one judges you for wanted a baby so badly, but having sex with a stranger with the intent on getting pregnant is not the right way to go about things. You have to think in the long run - what happens when the child asks about his/her father? Also, you have to think of the impact this would have on the father as well. He might not be ready to have children, and if you didn't tell him - that definitely wouldn't be fare on him.

In the future, I would recommend not meeting up with strangers off the internet, especially if this is your intent. People are not always who they say they are and you could put yourself in some dangerous situations doing this. If you still want to meet up with strangers - please tell someone where you are going, who with and give an estimated time you will be back so they can make sure you are safe. And if you are still intent on having sex, please use protection.

Can I ask how old you are?

I understand what you're saying and it good to see it written down like that. I know it wouldn't have been fair on the child and it isn't the right way to go about getting pregnant. The guy I was with asked me to marry him and also wanted children badly so that's why we had unprotected sex but then we split up and hence I went for the morning after pill. I know it was the right thing to do but I also feel gutted for some reason. I know it's very selfish of me but just need some help to get over this need for a child really. I will talk to my professionals about it!! I am 26 btw and BPD sufferer.

Ahh right, I see.

This still isn't the right way to go about it - you need to feel the same way about him too. Not just get married and be together because you both want a baby.

You will have a baby one day, just not now, and I have no doubt that you will be a brilliant mum but when the times is right and you are in a committed relationship where you both feel the same about each other and you have enough financial income to support the baby.

It's understable you feel that way, because you want a baby, but honestly I think you did the right thing this time and you will be so much happier when it happens at the right time in your life - it just so happens that time isn't now.
