Eating for 2 in pregnancy harms babies' IQs‎

Pregnant women ''eating for two'' can put their babies at risk from eating disorders and a low IQ, a new research has warned.

They may also put them at risk of developing behavioural problems, eating disorders and mental health conditions such as schizophrenia.

Doctors have long known that obese pregnant women are more likely to suffer blood clots, but the long-term effects of a mother's overeating on her child's health are not well understood.

Now a review of existing research has found evidence that obese women or those who put on excessive amounts of weight when pregnant could be harming their children's development, reports the Daily Mail .

You only need to eat a little more each day towards the end of the pregnancy and not double what you eat. The research is taking the "eating for two" idea and saying that it is not good for either the mother or the baby.

^ This is right. There is no need to 'eat for two', you have to be pretty malnourished before a fetus suffers any harm.

Always seem to get things just that little bit wrong.

And these things could happen just as much if you eat the normal healthy amount whilst pregnant..

I'm not sure that anyone takes the "eating for 2" thing literally... people eat a bit more during pregnancy, but I doubt that anyone actually doubles their intake :/

Babies born in May are both most likely to be happy and most likely to be depressed. Correlational reports regarding babies often tend to be great media stories (because of the 'ahhh!' factor), but without scientific explanation are often not really very valid studies.

Actually maintining prepregnancy diets (unless you overeat regularly) has the baby leeching off your body for what it needs to develop, causing deficencies and related issues (yknow, bone breakage being a major one). You are eating for 2, but you need to remmeber that you're not eating for 2 adults

For the first 6 months the mother's diet should be normal, then in the last 3 months it should only be 200 calories more than before.

And the baby is supposed to develop how in the meantime?

Also, isn't the Daily Mail basically the UK's FOXNews?

Remember a baby is a parasite. It will take whatever the hell it needs to grow and screw the mother :P

I think I love you.

I've been saying this for years, and for some reason everyone always gets offended!

I was always told that you do NOT "eat for two" it's simply a case of eating the right sorts of things to help yourself and your baby.

Its something like a few hundred extra calories that need to be consumed when your pregnant and that can be done quite easily without doubling your food intake or risking your own health or weight.

Aside from that. Obesity in pregnancy can cause a multitude of problems, as can being underweight. I'm not convinced that it effects(affects?) your IQ though?

LOL thank you. Points need to be made sometimes. It is a parasite, if it does nto get enough, mother will suffer.

Also I think the article is corrlating things that aren't supposed to be.
A mother who was ALREADY OBESE is not the same as a mother whoe's "eating for two"

(That and point already made, underweight causes FAR more birth problems than over.)
