Mithra, your comment about "30 posh blokes kicking a peanut about" is just so unkind - and totally misunderstands rugby.

Football vs Rugby is not a pissing contest. "Chacun a son gout" as the French say (go for whatever turns you on - not actually a literal translation ...)

But, if I were a lot younger and wanted to take, say, two small girls to watch a match, I know bloody well I'd rather take them to Twickenham than to your average First Division football ground. They wouldn't then have to try to cope with and try to understand the crudity that goes on both on the field and on the terraces.

I may be hated for saying it, but modern soccer is over-hyped, over-paid and greatly over-regarded. And, above all, modern-soccer-behaviour, both on and off the field, is vulgar, crude, money-driven and lacks any sense of example to set to its supporters.

So, there are my moderate views! I'll stand by for some sort of riposte from all you footie fans ...
