hey roo, i had a flute teacher like that once. i gave up playing because of him. he took the tape of my grade 5 exam (i passed with distinction) and told me i only passed at all because of the acoustics of the place ('you could strangle a cat and make it sound good in there'). That said i have a buffet flute - professionally cleaned and MOT'd £300 to anyone who wants it (cost me £500+).
