I really do feel exactly what you're going through with this.
I'm right in the middle of fighting to save my job because my employer found out I used to SI.
I'm afraid I don't know about US but I've learnt just about all there is to know about this situation in UK as it's all I've been dealing with for the past 2 years!!

Don't let them intimidate you though. They can't fire you on the spot.
