Basically 01001011 is the binary code for 45. Now, you take 45 and get 4 and 5, which a hex number, very similar to binary. It works like this 4=0100 and 5=0101, these are each known as a nibble. You add each nibble together to get a bit, which in this case is 01000101, or...69.
So yes, it's the geekiest joke on the planet that I made up, and it's really not very funny.
