I am currently:

ive been on a section 136 (police section) and i think a few unofficial 'detainments' by the nursing staff ie. they wouldnt let me go, but ive spent quite a long time as a volutary IP (even though some of it was involuntary voluntary...just less paper work i guess).

It cant just be one doctor who makes the decision to section you for longer than 72 hours. I know your nearest relative/care giver can appeal a section by writing to hospital managers. if the hospital managers decide u shouldnt be let go then thats when it becomes a court issue. and then they can over-rule the relative.

Im not sure of the difference tbh of over 18 and 16-18. The only difference i know of is if the 16/17 is placed on an adult ward, they have to by law, be on a 1 to 1. This is for their protection from other patients.

Take Care
