I am currently:

i think somebody already said this, but i vote sewing the ribbon together. it would take WAAY longer, but no matter how much i think about it, i can't think of a glue that won't soak through or eventually wear off like the hot glue - unless you used the dark spot where the glue showed through to glue something small on that covered up the spot? like a little button or rhinestone or stud or something? then it might still look nice, and it would save more time than sewing the ribbon..... hmm i can't think of something specific that you could use but i know that craft stores sell loads of those small plastic things with flat backs that you can use to glue on clothes and fabric and there must be something that would look nice.
